Waitlisted at George Washington - Class of 2019

Post by curly11 » Sun Feb 21, 2016 1:05 pm

Hello all. Just thought I'd get this started!
I was waitlisted in mid-Jan and have sent my LOCI.
Now the waiting continues...

My guess is after the first deposit deadline so maybe mid-late April?

Waitlisted 1/28. On 2/5 I visited GW and spoke with the Dean of Admissions. She said March is a good time to send in an LOCI because the Admissions Committee begins reviewing waitlisted applications in mid-March. After the 4/1 deposit deadline (e.g., mid-April) is when waitlisted candidates may be offered admission.

FYI-- I just emailed a short LOCI and received an even shorter receipt of that LOCI ~an hour later.

Hey there, fellow waitlister here with a quick question on your visit to GW.

I was placed on the waitlist back in January, immediately sent in my LOCI, and have another letter of rec in the works to send in. With that said, it just so happens that I'll be in DC this Saturday through Tuesday. I intend on visiting the campus, but am also hoping I can speak to someone on the admissions team. In regards to your visit and conversation with the Dean, did you schedule a campus tour and/or meeting with the Dean in advance? Are they receptive to waitlisted candidates who visit the campus?

GW is my top choice, so any advice on the matter is greatly appreciated!

Thank you, and best of luck to everyone!

GW is definitely receptive. Sophia Sim is the Dean of Admissions, and she is very professional and nice.

I scheduled a campus visit via an email to the GW admissions and waitlist email addresses. After that, I emailed Dean Sim directly (and cc'ed GW's admissions and waitlist email addresses) asking for an opportunity to introduce myself to her before or after the tour and class. I ended up meeting with her before the schedule tour and class (several other students met with her after the tour and class).

If I was you, I would call the Admissions office first thing in the morning since you are already in DC. You could say exactly what you wrote in your post (e.g., that you're a current applicant, placed on the waitlist, currently in DC and want to schedule a visit, etc.). I'm sure they will be able to set something up for you. I would make a point to ask for a brief meeting with Dean Sim at her convenience on Monday or Tuesday.

Good luck, happy to help.

I applied on January 4, 2016, got waitlisted on January 28, 2016. I've sent two LOCI. LSAT: 150, GPA: 3.4. I go to an Ivy League. Does anyone know my chances of getting in? I know my numbers aren't amazing, but I come from a unique/disadvantaged background (which I wrote about in a diversity statement). I'm just frustrated because I hate waiting and I don't know what else I can do...

Is the first seat deposit due date 4/1 or 4/15? I've heard conflicting things, and I'm trying to anticipate (read: blindly speculate) whether some on the waitlist will start to hear early April

Checking in and want to be sure I read the email correctly- they only needed us to send an email
To their wait list email account if we DIDN'T want to remain on their wait list. Right?

I sent a physical letter to Dean Sim and never got a response - It's been two weeks ):
I was wondering if anyone sent both a physical letter and an email to her?

So I've sent in another letter of recommendation as well as the optional video (during my regular app) and have noted my continued interest. Is there anything else I can/should do? I have not done a campus visit yet.

I've sent a LOCI, taken a campus tour, and met with a admissions counselor... I visited all the way from California so I hope that says something!!!
I would say visiting the campus is the next step for ya

Waiting is all you can do at this point. I'm 170/3.67 and got waitlisted as well, but my background is the opposite of unique.

Was waitlisted back in mid-January, but received an offer via email today. There was no mention of a scholarship though, so I don't think I'll be attending. Anyhow, just wanted to encourage those of you who are really set on GW that there is still hope!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
