Hey guys, I'm a 2L at LSU, so if you have any questions or want to hear from an LSU student about anything, let me know!

They're telling us that law center being absorbed back in to the main campus actually means that the we won't feel much pain as far as the budget goes (because the law school won't have cuts from its budget directly while the other independent campuses will). We'll see whether or not that's accurate. The interim dean is the kind of guy that could tell you that you have 10 minutes to live and manage to make you feel really good about it, so I don't know how I feel about anything he said. Haha.

So on 2/1 my status changed to "Your file is under review." Now the status date has changed to 2/19, but the status description still says the same thing. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks!

Hey buddy, I checked the LSU on law school transparency it shows that LSU has a 10% oci rate for its students, however most of the t2 school does not have that high rate? What makes LSU different from those schools? Thanks , I am an applicant of LSU this year.jukykarma01 wrote:Hey guys, I'm a 2L at LSU, so if you have any questions or want to hear from an LSU student about anything, let me know!

I'm not really sure what the OCI rate is, but assuming it means that 10% of students get their jobs via OCI's, I can say a few things about that:sadapplicantwhy wrote:Hey buddy, I checked the LSU on law school transparency it shows that LSU has a 10% oci rate for its students, however most of the t2 school does not have that high rate? First, OCI has a very strong regional reputation, and by regional I mean within the state of Louisiana. While Tulane is ranked higher, it produces more grads that leave Louisiana than LSU does, and the other law schools in the state (Loyola NOLA and Southern) don't have reputations nearly as strong as LSU does. Also, In my experience, quite a few firms hire either exclusively from LSU or hire a majority from LSU. The firms around here are also really good about rehiring after 1L summer for 2L summer and then hiring from their 2L SA pool.
Second, I guess its probably important that Louisiana is kind of insular, especially the legal community. By that I mean, these are almost entirely Louisiana firms that participate in OCI's. There's a few firms with branches in other cities (Houston, Mobile, a few in Atlanta, etc.), but generally LSU students aren't competing with students from other law schools on the same level that students at other schools might be. Or, at least that's my understanding.
I personally struck out big time on OCI's despite being top 15% of my class and on law review. I think its because I'm an out of state student with no intention to remain in the state. I found my 2L summer job with 0 help from career services because I'm planning to massively relocate after graduating.
Anyway, I'm not sure if that's really what you were looking for. I hope I helped.

Exactly. And the law school is endowed separately, so we have a little bit of a "cushion" to work with, as it were.mukol wrote:Oh, so hopefully the cuts will impact some other college/department rather and or more severely than the law school...jukykarma01 wrote:They're telling us that law center being absorbed back in to the main campus actually means that the we won't feel much pain as far as the budget goes (because the law school won't have cuts from its budget directly while the other independent campuses will). I will admit that the class offerings for next year are downright depressing. It looks like they probably cut 10 classes that were offered for rising 3L's last year. Its made scheduling very difficult.

Re: Louisiana State University c/o 2019
I have a question for everybody here. My application went "under review" on 3/1 and today it changed to 4/5, but it's still "under review". I'm curious because I impatiently waited the 4-6 weeks they originally had posted from 3/1 and now it's saying 4/5, but still says the review process could take 4-6 weeks. What does this mean for me? Thanks.

Same thing happened to me, and I had a decision within a few days. Hopefully that means the same for you!SouthernJD wrote:I have a question for you everybody here.
