I got in but was not impressed with my scholarship offer. Very low when compared to scholarships from similarly ranked schools.sneijder wrote:I know there are some lurkers who will be applying here.

OU is one of the most affordable law schools in the country. When you're that cheap, any scholarship can go quite a long way.engineer2law wrote:I got in but was not impressed with my scholarship offer. This is what I was just about to post. Especially, if youre an Oklahoma resident.jphiggo wrote:OU is one of the most affordable law schools in the country. 158 and 3.55 in engineering. I grew up in OK and went to OU but have worked in Texas for the past few years so I am out of state. I shouldn't say very low. They offered in-state tuition each year plus $2,000 each year. The reason I said it was low because I have seen that it is pretty easy to obtain in-state tuition in your second and third years anyway, so the offer for to cover the difference between in state and out state tuition seemed kinda pointless... For example, Mizzou offered me in state tuition only for the first year and then said getting in state tuition for my second and third year was up to me. However, they gave me a nice scholarship and, assuming I can get in state tuition on my own during 2L and 3L, I would only need to pay around $3,000 a year for tuition.sneijder wrote:engineer2law wrote:I got in but was not impressed with my scholarship offer. Thats worrisome. Mind pming me your stats? Are you out of state or in?
what were your numbers and when did you go complete and receive your decision? If you dont mind me asking. you can pm them if thats better.. Just need an idea to make an educated guess.. My buddy got in off the waitlist a few cycles ago. Can see if your numbers are close to his...sadapplicantwhy wrote:Got waitlisted by OU, anyone in the same boat? How long does it take for them to make the final decision?
IMO, If you dont get it this year and OU is where your heart is, sit out for one more. Are you applying to TU? If your heart is set on LAW SCHOOL this fall I would say TU would be much better than OCU.sothisisme wrote:AFter fighting for 4 months to get my transcripts from the cc i attended in high school, I finally put my application in to ou on 3-6-16 . 163 lsat and 2.65 gpa. GPA sucks cause life sucked at the time but was on the rise the last two years just the first two years were horrendous. hoping they may see past that. They might have had I been able to get my app turned in prior to the new year but the CC was trying to say I owed them 1800 dollars that I most certainly did not and I didn't have the 1800 dollars to give them so I could just get them turned in so I fought until they got it straightened out. May just have to try again next fall. We will see. Don't think I should bother with OCU even for a year to transfer. AS I've grown a lot in the last 8 years since my freshman year of undergrad I am confident I could be in the top 5 at ocu but if I didn't get accepted as a transfer for 2L I feel I'd be doomed as it seems I most certainly do not wish to get a degree from ocu if I hope to obtain a decent job. Any thoughts? I know that's not what this particular thread is for but I'm still just lacking in guidance on the appropriate paths to take.
Thank you much for your reply. I REALLY don't want to wait another year for law school as due to circumstances beyond my control I've already waited 3 years post undergrad to even apply. That being said, law school is worthless if it won't place me in a job I am content with. I am applying to TU though moving would be quite hard for me so I would likely only attend TU if I were to not get in else where. I must stay in OK as I have 2 children here, one of which leaves apart from me and I'm not willing to be any further from her than I already am. I graduated from OU so I'm hoping that may help but if you have any advice at all to increase my chances or just in general in regards to law school I would very much appreciate your suggestions/advice/guidance.sneijder wrote:IMO, If you dont get it this year and OU is where your heart is, sit out for one more. OCU students transfer to OU at a fairly high clip. I think top 25ish might be good enough for a transfer (it was for a friend of mine whom had a horrendous LSAT so he went to OCU then xfered to OU after being top 27ish, FWIW he was a URM, though.). I am of the mindset that its fine to go to law school with transferring in your mind, as long as you are confident with your current school and what they can offer you. At TU, you might be more confident in a plan B, as TU has been doing pretty well in job placement. Personally, I have 5-10 friends that got medium size to small firm jobs out of TU that they're are happy with.
163 should get you OU, if you have strong ties and express an interest in staying in OK. Good luck to you! If you have any questions going forward feel free to PM me. Im in at OU but it is looking like I will W/D. But I do have a lot of friends are friends of friends that are connected to TU, OU and OCU, so I could possibly be of assistance.

Sounds like some good news man!sothisisme wrote:Spoke with someone in admissions at OU today about coming in for admissions interview and they also asked if I' d be interested in the summer program, when I said that I would be they said that would help my entry into the program. They told me they have a applicant reviewing session this coming Monday and I'll be visiting the following Friday, so perhaps I will have a decision then.
You absolutely need to do the summer program. I work at a firm in the city and 4/5 lawyers who went to OU were waitlisted, did the summer program, and got off into OU through that.sothisisme wrote:Spoke with someone in admissions at OU today about coming in for admissions interview and they also asked if I' d be interested in the summer program, when I said that I would be they said that would help my entry into the program. CONGRATS MAN! knew they wouldnt turn down that LSAT. Cheers m8!sothisisme wrote:Was called today while I was at work and was told I was in. I had little time to speak and didn't even think to ask if I was in the summer program or just for the fall, but I'll be visiting Friday morning so I should know then. I'm also supposed to receive some info on scholarships and what not. I hope to do the summer program for nothing but to lighten the load of the first semester, but I will just have to see. Either way, I'm in and pretty pleased.
