Checking in, though I'm not sure how I feel about living in a cornfield for three years.

Also checking in, applied in October but still haven't heard anything. Also I've been to Champaign-Urbana several times and its actually a pretty nice area with plenty to do. You just gotta stay near the quad and far away from the cornfields if you're worried about a lack of scenery.

Judging by last year's thread we should start seeing acceptances soon.
Have any lurkers been admitted already?

No one on LSN has been, so probably safe to assume no decisions have been made yet.Harry_Pluxen wrote:Judging by last year's thread we should start seeing acceptances soon.

Not everyone posts on LSN - I know I don't.splitterfromhell wrote:No one on LSN has been, so probably safe to assume no decisions have been made yet.Harry_Pluxen wrote:Judging by last year's thread we should start seeing acceptances soon.

The last two years applicants knew by now. Maybe they are just running slow due to a higher amount of applicants, although I hope that's not the case. I've been in review for awhile now.

Checking in. I went complete/ready for review on 11/19 and into review on 12/2.
I was told by admissions that their goal was to do complete apps from August-October decisions by Thanksgiving. No idea about the hold up.

I went complete and into review these same days. I also submitted in that time frame, and still have not heard. I got in pretty quick at other schools with similar/tougher percentiles and better rankings than U of I so I'm hoping its because they are just behind and that there isn't an issue with my app.d237 wrote:Checking in. I went complete November 3, have been in review for about 2 weeks now. I'm hoping that they post decisions this week. We'll see. Large applicant numbers would stink, but I wouldn't be surprised that starting around now UIUC starts to rebound from the admissions scandal a few years back.

I'm really hoping for a decision this week as well. I wouldn't be surprised if UIUC had a large amount of applicants this year. 1. They were a top 25 school for a long time before the scandal. 2. The employment is still very solid 3. Plenty of people from out of state choose UIUC in hopes of getting Chicago. 4. The past cycles they've been pretty generous with scholarships.InGurleyWeTrust wrote:I went complete November 3, have been in review for about 2 weeks now. I'm kind of hoping that the low ranking will keep high quality applicants (those who go to low t14 or WUSTL) away from UIUC, but ultimately I'd be happy to see the medians come up again, and the school to get back into the top 25.

I think the reason they were top 25 is because of the scandal though. Those rankings are based largely on average LSAT of admitted students, so inflating those numbers will inflate your ranking.

Yeah, but if you look back at the rankings throughout the 90s and early 2000s you will see that Illinois was consistently ranked up in the top 25 and even the top 20 during some years. This was far before Dean Plessy came to UIUC and "edited" the LSAT scores and GPAs of the incoming classes.lawlawlaw22 wrote:I think the reason they were top 25 is because of the scandal though. Re: University of Illinois c/o 2019 Applicants
I think that's somewhat true, however I partially disagree. They were top 25 in part because of the of the inflated numbers, which US news weighs heavily in their decision. However, even in the year immediately after the scandal when the correct numbers were displayed, U of I still had a 163 median LSAT with a 165 75th. While this is nowhere near as good as the 167 median they were boasting, it was still within the realm of a top 25 LSAT median. Moreover, U of I is known for having solid employment and a great alumni base. They constantly rank between 16th-17th for alumni promoted to partner in big law, which is great for a non t14. I think they are heavily under-ranked now due solely to the scandal. Essentially U of I was, and still is, a decent school and easily comparable to ND or UMN who have been in the top 25 for years. So really its a bit of a stretch to say that they were top 25 solely due to inflated numbers, when the real numbers (a 163 median) are still competitive for a top 25, and the employment and program compete with ND and UMN. Also I think they could easily be back in the Top 25 given their current stats. I don't see Iowa or Bama being better, and they are both tied at 22. I'm not saying UIUC is on par with WUSTL, or Vandy, but to say they were only top 25 because of inflated numbers is definitely selling the school short imo.lawlawlaw22 wrote:I think the reason they were top 25 is because of the scandal though. I'm sad Friday is coming to an end and no one has posted anything about being admitted. I was 90% sure this was gonna be the big week. Oh well.

I think all of us were thinking this was the week (this was the end of the "4-6 week" window for must of us) and it's a real let down.
On the bright side, I went from "app complete" to ACCEPTED with a 96,000 dollar scholarship in the span of about 10 minutes today at Loyola, so today wasn't too bad!

Are they officially closed for the holidays now?

Re: University of Illinois c/o 2019 Applicants
I doubt that they would be closed as of next Friday (Xmas day), since it makes sense that they probably get Xmas eve and the rest of the week off, etc. Hopefully I am wrong about this and they are, in fact, open next week handing out decisions.FreeTheChief wrote:Oh...I hadn't thought about this. I have a friend who works in undergrad admissions at another school . She said that all of the staff are working through the end of the day Wednesday. So I have my fingers crossed that this is also true for law admissions at other schools
