I got one last year, the award was for 2500/year so 7500 total. Another person that got it also got the same amount.
Do you know of anyone who received more than one? They say you can apply for multiple areas but it would be interesting to know if anyone is ever selected to receive multiple awards.
Also have question about the scholarship. On the website it said the scholarship will have preference to those who have not got one yet, if I already have full ride, is it a good idea to still apply? thanks

I don't know the answer to this. I only got one, and the other person only got one. I think they may just give one per person, but might as well apply to as many as you want. Just remember that they ask for the reason why you're interested in a certain concentration, so if you can't spin the story well enough to make them believe you're interested, then you're not likely to get the scholarship.

My scholarship last year was 75k and they still gave me the dean's elite scholarship. They also gave the scholarship to someone else who also got 75k. I think your case might be different since you got a full ride, but might as well try, right? I didn't work really hard on in the application, just wrote a couple paragraphs about why I'm interested in a concentration. In my opinion, they weren't very good paragraphs, but still got the scholarship.

Just got a birthday card in the mail with a handwritten note. Minnesota has been the most personable school during the admissions process hahah

I got one too!

Also, UMN just dropped 2 places in the ranking. I'm sad for them but will definitely be using Boston U's (out)rank over Minnesota in the scholarship negotiation process, seeing as BU is a college they consider matching or increasing over.

Interested to hear if you've made any progress here. Did you attempt to negotiate? If so, how did it go?
I finally got a response on this. They upped my scholarship $5000 a year. They basically matched an offer I have from Vanderbilt but they are still much lower than my offers from Emory and Washu. I will be withdrawing because it just isn't worth it.

Anyone know if there's a place where I can download a PDF copy of my scholarship letter? Don't see anything on the admitted students site? Or maybe I missed it.

Yea I have a physical copy. I'm just at work now so I can't scan it. I'll just do it this evening if I can't get a PDF.

Anyone planning on going to the April 15-16 ASW? I'll be there and it'd be nice to put some faces with the usernames.

Aw, I'll be at the Apr 1-2 event. I'll try to report back with some thoughts though! I was just Yelping the area, and some of the African food options near the law school sound awesome!

Oh man, bummer! Have fun and definitely report back. There's a bar nearby that I can't remember the name of now (it's right next to a Chipotle) that has a killer patio. I'm hoping it's nice enough by mid April to check it out because, if we're being honest, that's where I'll be studying.

Had basically the same experience. Have a full ride to WashU and MN just bumped me up 5k a year. Pretty frustrating when I'd rather go to MN than WashU, but oh well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's a major bummer. Are either of you going for the Dean's Elite Scholarships? I'll be applying because I can't afford to go without a significant increase but it's tough because the decision on those won't be released until after a couple of my other deadlines.

I'm not sure. In their words, "Preference will be given to students that were not awarded scholarships through the admissions process. " which puts me at a disadvantage, so I'm not sure how likely I would be to receive it.

I won't be applying for it. Minnesota is out for me at this point. I hope my spot goes to someone that really wants it :)

Yeah, that has me worried too. But a previous poster ITT said that they got a large scholarship at admission and was still selected for the Dean's Scholarship and knew at least one other person in the same situation so I don't think that's a deal breaker. I'm definitely going for it, it just makes it hard to not know until the end of April.

Cool to see that some of you will also be at the ASW this weekend! Do you think they'll email us soon with details?
Also for anyone looking for housing, I live in Minneapolis and am looking for a roommate for the coming year. :) Send me a message if you're interested! I will be at the April 1-2 ASW, but since I live on campus can meet with anyone going to the later one, or touring the school!

I also just submitted 2 Dean's Elite scholarship applications (Human rights law, Labor and Employment law) and my scholarship negotiation. I received the same offer (20k) from BU, and am seeing if I can get MN to increase their offer at all. Doubtful, but worth a shot!

Is anyone worried about employment coming out of Minnesota? I would really love to go there but am just worried about finding a job as a lawyer after graduation. While number of non-school funded full time jobs is comparable to its peers, It seems like starting salary for most people is lower compared to similar ranked schools. What type of full-time JD jobs you think the 68+ percent non-school funded grads are getting? Is this like doc-review or just working at a small firm? Or other things?

ETA: do you think the employment numbers will go up with the soon to be graduating smaller class sizes?
