Thanks for the contribution guys! How would you characterize the competitive atmosphere at WF? And what about job prospects?

This is my perspective and cricket's free secrets may differ, but...Arculease wrote:

Atmosphere: People generally care about their work and want to do well. That's probably the same at any half-way decent law school. While there are a few gunner-types, I have not witnessed (or heard of) anyone just outright refusing to help others, cutting corners, etc. Most of the people (everyone from administrators to students to professors and staff) are pretty nice people. I can't compare it to other schools, but it's a good place to be from that standpoint.
Job prospects: The quality of job prospects sort of depend on your career goals. You can find a general answer by comparing Wake to other schools on LST. As you'd expect, the prospects are similar to other schools in the 25ish-60ish range. To elaborate a little, if your career goals include biglaw in San Fran or DC, you probably don't want to go here. Top 10-20% of the class has a good (though by no means guaranteed) shot at biglaw, clerkships, and the better mid-law in the region. But even those biglaw shots are unpredictable. It's unpredictable because (1) the NC legal market is small and heavily saturated, and (2) options outside of NC are doable, but ties and randomness make it hard to predict. Outside of the top of the class, it's more of a combination of luck and hustle. I'll have a better perspective on this in a year or two, but I think most students in the middle 50% tend to get jobs at small firms, local/state governments, etc. right before or after the bar.
TL,DR: the atmosphere is friendly and not brutally competitive overall, and the job prospects depend pretty heavily on your preferred outcomes.
Edit: If you want more details about my job hunt, feel free to PM.

Re: Wake Forest C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Pretty accurate statements.
I think part of it is also super super networking. I landed a sweet gig in DC this summer and I will tell you that I am not in top 10 or 25 for that matter. It was all networking.
Also, Wake is known for it's familial atmosphere. That doesn't mean there isn't a bit of friendly competition, however

^Nice! And yes...network, network, network.
Also, I'll add that Wake's job placement seems to be more dispersed than a lot of its peers. This is totally anecdotal, but of the few students whose post-grad/2L summer results I know, they are going to Dallas (2), Charlotte (1), Raleigh (1), Charleston, SC (2), Winston-Salem (2), New York (1), DC (1 - probably more), Atlanta (1), Norfolk (1), and Philly/Wilmington (3, including myself).

Current 1L, won't be able to give better advice then AT9/Cricket though.
For competitive environment: Haven't done any exams or anything, but it's been great. The family environment that was mentioned before is really true. Really close to my section & found some great friends.

Anyone notice on their application status where there is a "Tuition Deposit" and "Admissions Deposit" section under the "Application Fee"? Hoping this is a great sign!

They said that they're in the process of making their plan for scholarships for our class, and that if you are picked for a merit scholarship, the notification should be no later than February 5.Leagles5161 wrote:Did they mention anything about scholarships? I just got off the phone with admissions. I completed the online interview yesterday and was told they wouldn't start looking at them until the middle of next week.

Checking in. App complete 10/28, WF requested "interview" 11/24. I assume this is something pretty much everyone gets regardless. I've got a webcam somewhere, just gotta dig for it and whip it out.
For reference, LSAT 158, GPA 2.9.
