Holy crap. They dinged a 179!WatchClosely wrote:Ding via email. I'm not sure if I got YP'd or if they thought my application sucked. Either way, that was completely unexpected.

Does anyone know about scholarship info?
Does admission committee include the scholarship info in the congratulation letter, or send it by snail mail?

I got accepted back on Dec 01, but there was no money mentioned.
Is it still possible for them to offer me merit scholarships later on or will I have to be solely dependent on financial aid?

Mine wasn't mentioned in the mailed letter either (mine was in email)! I was in the first batch of acceptances so maybe they're just now doing it? who knowsSera Numquam wrote:When you open the ribbon and pull it out I'm pretty sure it was in the letteroreomilkshake wrote:Where was it in the packet? I was accepted a month ago maybe? I think it was in the letter, but I'll go check. Same question. When is the best time to negotiate scholarships? And what is the best way to do so?abc__ wrote:Can you negotiate scholarships even if they already gave you an initial amount in your acceptance letter? If so, when would you even do that?
I was accepted mid-November and offered $30,000 for all three years, or $10,000 a year. I would probably only consider going if I received at least $20,000 a year. I have a 3.99 gpa and 160 lsat, so not sure how realistic I'm being.

You will need some leverage, be it a higher offer from a similarly ranked school, etc.abc__ wrote:Can you negotiate scholarships even if they already gave you an initial amount in your acceptance letter? If so, when would you even do that?

If you check the admitted students website, this is what is reads under the tab for merit scholarships: "While GW Law does not engage in the negotiation of scholarship awards based on competing offers, we will review requests for scholarship reconsideration. From February 1- March 15, students will have an opportunity to complete our Scholarship Reconsideration Request form, which will be available on this page during that time frame."cak3893 wrote:Same question. My question is, is this how it always was or is this something new that they're doing? Does this mean you can't negotiate after March 15th? What if you get more acceptances/scholarship money to use as leverage after that date? March 15th is so early, especially for scholarship info...

Re: George Washington 2015-2016 Applicants
Thank you! I've been trying to set up some leverage haha, if all goes well. I just asked this, but on the admitted students website it states that there's a scholarship reconsideration form that is due March 15th. Do you know if that is always how GW has negotiated and if that means they absolutely won't be responsive after March 15th?cc1012 wrote:You will need some leverage, be it a higher offer from a similarly ranked school, etc.abc__ wrote:Can you negotiate scholarships even if they already gave you an initial amount in your acceptance letter? Does this mean they don't want you to even bother mentioning competing offers?abc__ wrote:If you check the admitted students website, this is what is reads under the tab for merit scholarships: "While GW Law does not engage in the negotiation of scholarship awards based on competing offers, we will review requests for scholarship reconsideration. If you have better offers, you should mention them regardless of what they say.cak3893 wrote:Does this mean they don't want you to even bother mentioning competing offers?abc__ wrote:If you check the admitted students website, this is what is reads under the tab for merit scholarships: "While GW Law does not engage in the negotiation of scholarship awards based on competing offers, we will review requests for scholarship reconsideration. I doubt that this is a new policy but you could check in previous years' threads to see what they say. I would be shocked if they won't let you negotiate after March 15th. Many times, scholarship negotiations can carry on late into the summer.

Re: George Washington 2015-2016 Applicants
^^ I agree. If you have better offers, tell them. I've always been told that schools will tell you they don't look at competing offers as a method of deterrence. If you have a school like USC or someone ranked higher giving you more money, there's no way they can ignore that if their job is to get you to come to that school.cc1012 wrote:If you have better offers, you should mention them regardless of what they say.cak3893 wrote:Does this mean they don't want you to even bother mentioning competing offers?abc__ wrote:If you check the admitted students website, this is what is reads under the tab for merit scholarships: "While GW Law does not engage in the negotiation of scholarship awards based on competing offers, we will review requests for scholarship reconsideration.
