Miami Law c/o 2019 Applicants
Got the acceptance call from the dean yesterday offering 35k a year with a 2.5 GPA stipulation. Wondering if anyone else has gotten similar offers?

Check the grading scale/curve. Most people on here would advise you to be wary of any stipulations other than "good academic standing" or whatever the generic is. I would try and negotiate with other offers to get your stipulation removed or a higher scholly. Some schools pit the stipulated scholly-holders against each other by putting them all in the same section. That way many of them will lose their schollies to the curve but still feel committed to go to law school, thus paying sticker at a school that's not worth that much debt (this is coming from a OL with no knowledge of FL).Leagles5161 wrote:Got the acceptance call from the dean yesterday offering 35k a year with a 2.5 GPA stipulation. I have yet to receive the information in writing, but on the phone the dean said the only stipulation is staying in good academic standing (which he said is a 2.5). Thanks for the heads up.

Gotcha. Yea I'd wait and see what the offer actually says, and of course it is super early in the cycle so other options may be available. But good luck!Leagles5161 wrote: I have yet to receive the information in writing, but on the phone the dean said the only stipulation is staying in good academic standing (which he said is a 2.5). Thanks for the heads up, I'm wary of the deal in general as I've heard Miami is very stingy with $. As a lifelong FL resident, Miami seems like a decent option but I'm not exactly salivating about it.

Ask what the median is. I know it can be scary, but reach out to the class of 2018 and ask them, not the official median that they release to employers, but the real one.

You'll be in with a scholarship. I had a C&F explaination as well. You'll most likely hear back this week, they are incredibly quick down there.Dan0504 wrote:Up for review, 161. 3.4. C&F Addendum. Nervous.

Possible but unlikely.Doesthenamematter wrote:Admitted 2 days after applying, no scholarship offer though, if it's not mentioned right away should I assume I'm not getting one?

How soon did you hear after your application was complete? Mine went complete this morning. Also did you get an email too or just a call? I am in undergrad and am nervous about only getting calls because I don't want to pick up my phone during class, but of course I am neurotic and find myself constantly checking!Leagles5161 wrote:Got the acceptance call from the dean yesterday offering 35k a year with a 2.5 GPA stipulation. Here is the scholarship retention data:
http://media.law.miami.edu/legal/pdf/St ... t-2014.pdf
Based on prior years and assuming that their conditions are the same, one has between a 25-30% chance of losing a conditional scholarship.

I heard back the following business day with a call then an email that day then a letter a few days after. Good luck!acceptme2019 wrote:How soon did you hear after your application was complete? Seems like the scholarships for this cycle are quite different with lowered stipulations. I would have to maintain a 2.5 GPA, which is top 92% of the class.BasilHallward wrote:Here is the scholarship retention data:

Yes. However, it seems that the dean of admissions will call to break the news of the scholarship.acceptme2019 wrote:Thanks. 35,000 scholarship /year, but the good standing and high COA on their website (70k not including tuition?!) is unsettling.
