Meeting up with the Assistant Dean of Admissions here in rural Alaska because he happens to go to the annual dog race up here. How weird is that?

Depends on how competitive your numbers are. If you're 165+ probably less than a week. If you're at the medians it could be a little while.trenhardeatclen wrote:My status changed to "Current Status: Under Initial Review by Committee"

Yeah, it could be awhile, even this late in the cycle. I applied in early September and just heard back this week with a 75% scholly.Sonar80 wrote:Depends on how competitive your numbers are. Has anyone toured yet? Thoughts?
I thought I was set on FSU (scholarship) but now I'm not so sure. I definitely need to see UF.

I went around there last year. It was alright. I wasn't blown away or anything, but conversely I didn't think 'what a shit hole!' All the 1L classes are essentially in the same building which has three or four huge classrooms, and you pretty much switch between rooms all day. The library is pretty big, and has three 'areas' the quiet, very quiet and deathly silence areas. The law school itself wasn't as big as I was expecting. As with most colleges, parking is a HUGE issue there. Gainesville is a nice place, and has a lot of diversity and lots of things to do.Kat1021 wrote:Has anyone toured yet? Thoughts?

Helloooo, accepted with 75% scholarship a month or two ago. But I'm a UF undergrad, so if anyone has any questions about the Gainesville area or UF in general, feel free to ask.

I heard UF campus is ginormous. Is it bike friendly? How do most students get around in town? Recommend bringing a car?blonde&confused wrote:Helloooo, accepted with 75% scholarship a month or two ago. Parking is not a huge issue. As long as you're there before 9 M-W you can park very close. If you get there after, you can park within a 5 minute walk. If you get there around a time when a lot of classes get out (i.e. 11:50) you can usually snag someone who is leaving's spot.Sonar80 wrote:I went around there last year. It was alright. On Thursday, you can usually get a close spot any time, and on Friday it's a ghost town.
There's never a time where you can't park within 5 minutes. Of the school.

The whole UF campus is huge, yes, but the law school is not. I would bring a car unless you're living across the street and don't mind taking the bus to get groceries.CPAlawHopefu wrote:I heard UF campus is ginormous. Is it bike friendly? I'm glad you said that. Levin's website gave me the impression that I should plan on taking a bus because of how bad parking its. I believe I read that the law lot only has 90 parking spots.FuturePanhandler wrote:Parking is not a huge issue. As long as you're there before 9 M-W you can park very close. The bus system is awesome though. Tons of lines, usually very timely, and gps tracker app is super helpful. If you live anywhere near campus, I'd recommend the bus.

And the law lot isn't all that huge, but there's a bunch of street parking.

Man, I'm glad to hear that. Both the website and the lady giving me the tour basically indicated that parking is a nightmare. Do you know anyone that got a spot at the church down the road? How did that work out for them?FuturePanhandler wrote:Parking is not a huge issue. As long as you're there before 9 M-W you can park very close. It's only nightmare if you have class at 10am and try to get there at 9:55. Otherwise I don't find it to be an issue, certainly not a "nightmare" in comparison to other schools.Sonar80 wrote:Man, I'm glad to hear that. I guess parking at the church works fine. You have a guaranteed spot and I think it's a little cheaper. It's more of a walk than if you are able to park right at the school, which I wouldn't like since it rains so much and it's so hot for much of the fall and the end of spring. One advantage to having a UF decal ("green decal") is that you can park at the gym if you go during the day. Otherwise there's no parking until 3:30 I think.
If you plan on always getting to campus early (which I recommend as a habit for studying purposes) and don't want to walk much then I recommend just going with the UF decal.

I mean I haven't counted, but I believe there's a lot more than that immediately around the school, and there's a LOT more than that if you include the areas around the school that are within a 5 minute walk.Kat1021 wrote:I'm glad you said that. Oh. I knew they were blocking it off a while back but I thought it was just temporary. Good to know.FuturePanhandler wrote:There's no more street parking.IsThisForReal wrote:And the law lot isn't all that huge, but there's a bunch of street parking.

From what I understand, they made up for it by making more of the parking lot available to student decals than there used to be.IsThisForReal wrote:Oh. I definitely agree with this. Having a car in Gainesville is definitely a lot easier, especially for things like groceries. The UF campus is pretty bike friendly, and lots of people do bike around the undergrad campus but like it was mentioned above the law school is not that big. Another option is to get like a scooter or a motorcycle. I have a scooter and it is really convenient (except when it rains). Parking is never an issue, and it's faster than the bus. It's really nice to have on gamedays too lol.FuturePanhandler wrote:The whole UF campus is huge, yes, but the law school is not. Thanks for the advice, I was seriously considering the church, but it's very likely that I will be at the school sometime around 830 every day unless I have earlier classes. Are you pretty satisfied with your choice to go to UF all together?FuturePanhandler wrote:It's only nightmare if you have class at 10am and try to get there at 9:55.
