Also, last years thread seemed to indicate that UF is pretty random when it comes to the application process unless you're 165+.

Hi guys! Checking in.
I tend to agree with this as well! ^^ From everything I've seen.

Awesome! Do you mind if I ask what your stats are?
I have not submitted my app as I am waiting on one more LOR. But I have everything else completed. I hope to submit asap!

Good luck! Maybe the new dean will clean up the process a little more, apparently last year had a bunch of people being nervous wrecks!

I went to comparative review sometime on Friday. Now the long wait begins, hopefully not too long. I believe if you're 165+ you go straight from initial review to 'decision reached'.

Thanks! I'm still in initial review. I'm at/above the 75th percentiles so I'd assume I'll be in comparative review sometime this week. Is UF your top choice? As a Florida resident with a desire to work here, it seems like the obvious choice.

Yes, UF is my first choice, for a whole host of reasons the school doesn't need to know. I am in a situation that prevents me from moving, and I can drive to UF from my house. I'm hopeful that I can get some scholarship money and get through my JD for less than $30k. I have a pretty good network going in North Florida already so that's most likely where I'll end up. Even though it's not the T14, UF at a discount price is not a bad deal.Leagles5161 wrote:Sonar80 wrote:Good luck!Leagles5161 wrote:Under initial review by committee. Good call. I am in a similar position as I am a Florida Law legacy with strong ties to the gulf coast of Florida. No interest in Biglaw. From the looks of your stats, I would be surprised if you were not offered a solid scholarship package. The new dean seems determined on raising the admission standards, therefore I could see more scholarship offers this cycle. Best of luck!

What's the housing situation like? Fairly segregated from the undergrads? Any rental houses for cheap near the law school?

Thanks, I'm hopeful that I'll get a decent scholly. I know the 165+ cats were offered $59k last year, and I would very much like to get that sort of number for scholarship. I have pretty strong softs as well, I'm a 35 yr old non-trad with 14 years of solid public safety work behind me. I'm hoping that pans out for me.Leagles5161 wrote:Sonar80 wrote:Yes, UF is my first choice, for a whole host of reasons the school doesn't need to know. I doubt it. The people in my section were really nice. I'm not older but everyone got along well and the older students tended to do better than the younger students on average.Sonar80 wrote:Am I going to hate life being the oldest person in my section? lollawman84 wrote:If anyone has any questions about UF law, let me know. There are rental houses for rent near the law school but they are usually snatched up pretty quickly during the spring. As far as cheap goes, it depends on your definition.Leagles5161 wrote:lawman84 wrote:If anyone has any questions about UF law, let me know. I'll do my best to answer them.

As far as segregating yourself from undergrads, you can do it. There are complexes that are mainly graduate and family housing. There are others that are much more mixed. It's up to you how segregated you want to be.

Good luck. I'd be interested to see what your timeline/offers pan out to be. Where is your first choice?AF_Falcon wrote:Application now in comparative review.

Re: University of Florida Levin College of Law c/o 2019
Thank you. I will PM you my choices, but my decision will come down to finances more than anything. I am applying for a program through the Air Force that will pay up to $16,000 a year in tuition and continue to pay me my active duty pay plus all benefits to attend law school full time. After passing the Bar exam, I would officially be a JAG officer and owe them an additional 6 years on top of the 2 I would have remaining on my Academy commitment. So, where I go will have no bearing on my salary. UF is high of my list as I grew up in Jacksonville, FL. It would be nice to live in the area again after being away for the last 7 years.Sonar80 wrote:Good luck. I'd be interested to see what your timeline/offers pan out to be. Re: University of Florida Levin College of Law c/o 2019
Ya know, I thought it was until I heard about other law schools. Now, my opinion is that it's not bad at all compared to the other law schools out there.Sonar80 wrote:Is the parking the nightmare I've heard for the law school?lawman84 wrote:If anyone has any questions about UF law, let me know. I haven't had any issues finding parking this year. Last year, there were issues at times. Generally, at worst, you can park down by Lake Alice...it's just a long walk to the school. But I've been able to get spots in Frat Row or the Lot behind the law school every day. Corry Village is also an option instead of Frat Row.
So I wouldn't say it's that much of a nightmare. If you park in Corry Village or Frat Row, it's a slight walk but if you get in the main lot, it's connected to the law school.
The thing is that there are certain times that are terrible. Generally, you either want to get there before 9:30 AM or after 1 PM. If you get there between 10 AM and 12 PM, you might have to park at Lake Alice...or possibly even further.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
