You absolutely shouldn't have to be uncomfortable - that's so aggravating. I really wish other men would step up in that scenario. You know, like use their privilege to actively combat a culture that deems that normal and acceptable, instead of sitting back and expecting accolades because hey at least they're better than that guy.

Over the past few years, I've become more and more androgynous presenting, which means I don't face as much day-to-day street harassment, but now occasionally a dude will decide to make assumptions about my sexuality and then try to convince me that I only swing that way because I haven't had their special brand of man magic. Or something. I'm fascinated by what that says about male fragility in theory, but mostly it's just really gross.

Has anyone seen the new Aziz Ansari show Master of None? There is great episode where him and his friend (queer WOC, might I add) citizens arrest a subway masturbator. Its amazing, highly recommend that episode for feminist purposes and the series for humor purposes.

Yeah I've definitely altered my route home on more than one occasion when it's late and night and a guy's being inappropriate. It's the worst

That's absolutely disgusting, I'm sorry.

I was taking a nap in a park once and when I woke up a dude was "napping" like twenty feet away from me and jacking off. Really gross, though he may have been mentally ill so I mostly felt bad for him.

Yeah the Italian men were either very respectful and kind or insanely pervy. I've never seen anything like it. I think its because it has more traditional gender roles, so men either saw themselves as the perfect gentlemen there to help the damsel in distress, or saw women as something to be objectified. But I was only there for a summer, so I could be totally off base in my cultural assessment haha.

I had a different experience, but I always traveled with a guy so maybe that helped? Plus seconding Hildy's "I'm not clasically attractive" comment (about myself, not Hildy, lol).

Oh my that is so horrible! As a native Italian I feel the need to apologize on behalf of my fellow countrymen. No wonders I married an American lol - though I have to say I have met my good share of creeps here too
