Good morning ladies!

To all the newcomers - where all are you applying to?

And, in the spirit of the thread - do gender ratios factor in at all?

I'll be applying to most of the T14 (excluding Y and S) as well as some higher T14s - those will probably depend on where I get fee waivers. The abysmal gender balance at places like Duke and UVA are definitely something I'm thinking about, but not enough to deter me from applying. If I end up seriously considering them, I would definitely talk to some current female students when I visit to get the scoop.

I think the gender ratio is something I'll look into but won't be a deciding factor. I went to undergraduate with like almost 70% girls which was pretty awesome

My undergrad was 51% female, 49% male, but felt different because I was in a female-dominated school and Greek life. My other extracurriculars were a lot more balanced though.
Women's college graduate for the win here! I am applying straight down the T14. Gender disparity will affect where I decide to attend for sure. I originally had completely struck UVA off my list but then some of the other users mentioned being able to use them for scholarship negotiation so I reconsidered. Who knows, maybe they will surprise me.

I think that the ratios don't mean as much to me as what current students will be able to tell me about the atmosphere, but a 70-30 split a la UVA definitely raises red flags. But yeah, I feel like half the schools I'm applying to are largely for negotiation purposes.

Checking in! Retaking in Oct, then submitting as soon as I get my scores in. Applying as early as possible to overcome that low GPA thanks to a year of bio and chem!

cant really answer that - I dont believe in traditional gender categories.

Totally derailing this away from law school, but I feel so grateful to have grown up with a character like Hermione. She was the smartest and knew it, and her looks were never made an important part of the story. Of course, I picked Xena in the poll since I think she helped to fundamentally shape who I am today.

And on top of being smart, so brave and loyal and most importantly not afraid to stand up against injustice whenever she saw it. I never thought much of S.P.E.W. when I first read the books, but her ability to empathize with the house elves and stand up for them when everyone else thought she was crazy for caring.... She'd make a damn good lawyer!
