Should I mention an acceptance in a last-minute LOCI?
I'm still waistlisted at about 5 schools, and I got a call today from a t14 offering admission and a decent amount of $. There is another school that I'd like to hear back from, and it's ranked about 2-3 spots higher than the one that just accepted me. I'm thinking of sending another LOCI to the other school to let them know that I was accepted and offered money from a school a few spots lower than them. I can see how this could encourage them to take another look at my app, and since it's basically the end of the cycle, I could get lucky if someone drops out right before orientation. But I'm worried they'll take this the wrong way, especially since I just sent them a LOCI last week and would have nothing else to write about aside from the acceptance update.
Any help is much appreciated!

I'm a 0L with no experience in the matter, but I think it sounds worth mentioning to me. Just make sure you frame it the right way - "I received an acceptance with $X from X school... In order to ensure that I have enough time to make living arrangements, etc., I need to accept an admissions offer soon. Y is still my top choice and I want reiterate my interest. I hope to receive a decision regarding my application status soon..." Something like that!

At best, doing this won't help.

They really won't care. Look at it from their perspective, they either have a slot avaialble or they don't. If they do, its a numbers game....do your numbers help them in any way hold their median and help them better than others on the WL. If not, they the other person gets first dibs to any opening. But I'm worried they'll take this the wrong way,
Then don't.I just sent them a LOCI last week and would have nothing else to write about...
btw: it could also backfire: "Hello, #8-10, I just got into #11-14 with xx dollars." If number 8-10 is looking for full payers only, you will be dinged.
OTOH, it couldn't hurt to call: hello, #8-10, I was accepted off a WL, but you are my first choice, and before I commit.....but the question is will you we willing to pay sticker? (Stupid decision, but its your money)....if so, tell them that.

Thank you all for the replies.
For the record and for anyone with this question in future app cycles: it did work. I just got off the phone with the Dean and was offered admission.

Now that your position is secure, could you out the schools?

It's too soon to out the schools, but I can PM whoever is interested as soon as I make a final decision. I'll post it here in a few weeks for future reference.Wild Card wrote:Now that your position is secure, could you out the schools?

Judging by his most recent post, he is a law student at BU.

Maybe, but he seemed to narrow his choices to WashUStL with $120,000 & BU with $96,000.

Good investigating my man. The question has been settled after two months.CanadianWolf wrote:Maybe, but he seemed to narrow his choices to WashUStL with $120,000 & BU with $96,000.
Future cycles, thank CanadianWolf.

Yes, I used BU's 96k to negotiate a full ride at WUSTL (in person). BU matched so WUSTL offered a Webster (stipend). I used that and got off a waitlist (phone call) from a T14 with no $. BU matched WUSTL's total COA after the Webster, so I stayed at BU.rnoodles22 wrote:I thought he got into a T14?
