What happened to waitlists this year?

Post by ku546 » Sat Aug 15, 2015 4:45 pm

Berkeley hasn't made any movement off the WL (380 ppl) this year. Compare that to 2 years ago where you had people from the third quartile of the WL getting in.

Cornell has not reported any movement off of summer WL.

Fordham dean said this was a "weird summer" because no one withdrew with the exception of one girl who got pregnant. As a result, they are over enrolled.

I wonder what the root cause is.

I'm thinking it may have to do with this being the "bottom" in terms of law school enrollment dropping. Schools have already adjusted their class sizes and admissions expectations after the great recession took its toll while preparing for another potential drop in enrollment. If I am correct in that enrollment drops have stalled, then that would help explain why WL movement has been exceptionally minimal -- the WL is (generally) used for enrollment decline surprises. No surprise decline? No WL.

LSAC applicant volume shows Fall 2014 enrollment dropping half as much as last year.
