I'm in, call late afternoon.
Congratz! And welcome to the wonderful world of posting!

If a specific data point will make you feel better, I got into Stanford very early and have received zero named scholarship love from Columbia. So it's definitely extremely doable.cranburial wrote:It seems like everyone's who's gotten into Stanford and Columbia this cycle has gotten a Hamilton from Columbia. Is there any chance of getting into Stanford with a Butler or less? Or are the chances pretty slim?

Submitted 11/17/15, complete 11/24/15. No Stanford-specific LoR.jlk411 wrote:Congrats fastrun, can you let us know when you submitted and/or went complete?
Totally missed the call, phone never rang. Stupid service. Missed call notification just showed up.fastrun wrote:In via email! ~11:20 am Pacific time. The email says that Dean Deal was "was not successful in reaching [me] by phone," which is strange because I never received a call, missed call, or voicemail, but I also have such bad service at work that it may have never come through.

Congrats to both of you! If you can take a break from celebrating and update/add your info to the the Stanford spreadsheet, that would be awesome. We've already got more people reporting acceptances in this year's SLS spreadsheet than last year's entire cycle did, so let's keep up the good workjmj2254 wrote:

I don't know whether it would merit an application update solely on the basis of the change in your father's employment, but maybe if you could lump it together with other updates, it could come off better (humble opinion, utterly subjective, TLS novice).KiltedKicker wrote:Congrats to all of the admits!
Question for anyone who might be able to help, my Dad actually teaches a class on IP monetization at Stanford GSB (their biz school) but didn't start until after I sent in my application. So I put on my app that he was retired. This seems like information that I would like them to know, but isn't pertinent enough for me to justify reaching out to tell them exclusively that info. That a correct read? Somewhat related, I'm planning on going into corporate tech law and Stanford is my dream school, but I didn't personalize any of my applications. Can I submit a 'why Stanford' type addendum essay before receiving a decision, or did that ship sail once I submitted my application? Lastly, I pass the school every day on the way to work, would it be weird for me to just stop by and walk around?
Appreciate the help, and think you're right. Given the lack of anything important to reach out to them about, I'm probably going to hold pat. And while I would like the chance to introduce myself, I don't realistically expect that to make any difference in my chances, so I'm mostly just interested in checking out the school and the classes (and am hoping that doesn't seem too over-eager). I'll reach out to them about sitting in on a class, because if the opportunity is there I don't see why I shouldn't take advantage.4thand9 wrote:I don't know whether it would merit an application update solely on the basis of the change in your father's employment, but maybe if you could lump it together with other updates, it could come off better (humble opinion, utterly subjective, TLS novice).KiltedKicker wrote:Congrats to all of the admits!

I remember reading on their admissions page something along the lines of "We don't interview, but we encourage you to visit." So you can swing by the law school and sit in on a 1L class as a prospective student (class schedule is https://www-cdn.law.stanford.edu/wp-con ... -11-16.pdf).
You can either do this for the intrinsic value of actually getting a feel for SLS, or, as it appears in your post, if you're more interested in finding a way to show interest/drop your name by visiting you can do that too as a quasi-Why Stanford.

Thanks! The acceptance was definitely a surprise (I would have been stoked with getting on the waitlist). I think that I have above average softs, but nothing insanely interesting. I didn't have any Stanford specific LORs or tailoring within my personal statement. I had really good letters of rec (including a law professor with whom I took a seminar), a rough upbringing that made for a personal statement that I'm rather proud of, and, according to my advisers, apparently being from Iowa makes me a diversity candidate haha.IcarusOnWheels wrote:mesnggirl wrote:Accepted by missed call/email this afternoon! Congratulations!! My scores are close/similar to yours. You give me hope! How are your softs? Did you have Stanford specific LORs?
Sounds like you earned the acceptance to me! Congrats again! I hope I join you soonmesnggirl wrote:Thanks! Haha well if there isn't one yet, there will be soon! Midwestern politeness and corny puns await you all.4thand9 wrote:FWIW, the Facebook group now has nearly 80 people. I checked to find if there was one person from Iowa from above

I got into Stanford a couple weeks ago and haven't heard anything from Columbia despite interviewing over 2 months ago...YMMVNecho2 wrote:If a specific data point will make you feel better, I got into Stanford very early and have received zero named scholarship love from Columbia.
