Did anyone get scholarship offers with their acceptance?

Congrats to all the recent admits!!
No action on my end. I reapplied after a long reserve ride last cycle (the AO staff here were really pleasant tho)

Did anyone's email come with a pin number? It looks like the admitted students website is up but requires a pin that was "provided within your Offer of Admission letter"

Re: Columbia C/O 2019 Applicants - 2015 - 2016
Okay team, I just finished reading about 30 pages on the 2018 admitted and applicants thread and have some intel about decision notification methods and scholarships (yes, this is what I do during syllabus week). Note that I only read through mid-april so I can't speak to reserve or what happens after deposit deadlines.
- all Butler, Hamilton, and public interest scholarship offers came with the initial acceptance letter
- acceptances were sent both by email (followed by the arrival of snail mail) and by just snail mail (light blue envelope)
- towards the beginning of acceptances (jan-feb), almost all acceptances containing scholarships were sent via snail mail (no emails), exceptions were international students and a couple of weird cases related to weather where emails were sent with acceptances and schollys
- as ASW approached, some domestic applicants received acceptances w/scollys via email (then mail)
- accepted students who did not receive these big initial scholarships were only given "need-based aid" that was announced (via snail mail) during the first two weeks of april (this trend holds back to c/o 2016).
other thoughts:
- Columbia did some very interesting YP-ish moves with people around/above both 75ths. They held a ton of them in late feb and then began accepting them at the beginning of april
- accepted students had some luck getting their finaid offers via email instead of mail by applying pressure in early april due to impending deposit deadlines
- the process/timeline/bureacracy behind all of CLS's admit and $$ decisions seems like a giant constantly shape-shifting black box so hold on tightly cause its gonna be a long and wild ride

Like the four posters before me, I appreciate you doing this, TFlan. Not sure why, but I'm surprised by the suggestion of YP at Columbia. They seem too high in the rankings to worry about that too much. It makes me nervous, though, since I didn't get an interview and am above both 75ths.tflan19 wrote:Okay team, I just finished reading about 30 pages on the 2018 admitted and applicants thread and have some intel about decision notification methods and scholarships (yes, this is what I do during syllabus week). Re: Columbia C/O 2019 Applicants - 2015 - 2016
Yeah, I found it surprising too but there was a ton of discussion about it last cycle and that seemed to be the consensus. A whole group of applicants who were right at/above both 75ths, non-KJD, and performing well during the rest of their cycle were notified that they had been "held" (as opposed to CLS's "reserve" waitlist) in late feb/early march. They were asked to submit LOCI and many of them were then accepted in early April without interviews and others were asked to interview around that time. I didn't follow the scholarship success of this particular group but if I recall correctly, they weren't getting big $$$.WinterComing wrote: Like the four posters before me, I appreciate you doing this, TFlan. While this seems cruel/unusual for CLS to YP, there was a lot of discussion of issues that CLS had in the 2013-2014 c/o 2017 cycle and them trying to correct that? They didn't seem to do a hard WL/ding YP but instead their "hold" technique cleaned out those who weren't super hyped about CLS and gave time for applicants to find out about HYS or huge T14 schollys. Then again, we've already seen changes in CLS's admissions process this cycle, with FAR more interviews than in previous years. Maybe they won't feel the need to do this YPish "hold" thing when they have a better feel for the interest of the applicant pool at large?

Like others have said, thank you so so much for taking the time to share this information with us. I'm not going to lie, the information above is really distressing. I'm already cruising towards a waitlist/ding at HLS, I couldn't bear it if CLS hated on me too. I'm starting to feel really glad that I decided to do an East Coast school tour. During my interview, the admissions officer seemed very happy when I started talking about my visit and tying it into my "why Columbia" answer. I've managed to avoid YP so far, fingers crossed I don't get blind-sided by CLS.tflan19 wrote:Yeah, I found it surprising too but there was a ton of discussion about it last cycle and that seemed to be the consensus.
