Lurker breaking his vow never to post on TLS to say: no, not necessarily. I called the Admissions Office yesterday and they said that if a WL applicant has something hold applicants don't, they'll admit off the WL.darkchildnana wrote:I would assume so, because none of us hold applicants have even received an initial decision of 'admit' 'wait list' or 'deny'calgoldenbear wrote:Does NU need to go through all the hold applicants before it starts letting people in off the wait list?
The main reason I called was this discrepancy between the hold decision letter and the hold response confirmation:
Decision Letter: "In May, we expect to conduct a re-evaluation of candidates who have chosen to remain on hold. After this
re-evaluation has occurred, you will be notified whether you have been admitted, denied, or placed on our summer
waitlist."
Hold Response Confirmation: "Starting in May, the Admissions Committee expects to conduct a re-evaluation of candidates who have chosen to remain on hold. After this re-evaluation has occurred, you will be notified whether you have been admitted, denied, or placed on our summer waitlist."
The Admissions guy said the latter formulation controls and so there's no expectation for us to hear by the end of May. He also sort of laughed while explaining that being held was a non-decision decision. Like hmm, hadn't noticed that yet...
