This completely depends on your relationship with the recommender, BUT I politely and professionally reminded a recommender that I would love it finished sooner than later. The professor cited his busy schedule during the first week of the semester, then promptly wrote it that night. I did it face to face so I couldn't come off standoff-ish while hiding behind a screen. I would highly recommend this as most professors, and other professional LOR writers, are busy and may not understand the urgency and importance of an early cycle application. Fine line to walk but my personal relationship with the professor of the last three years allowed for this to work out perfectly for me.

Does anyone know if there's an existing list of schools that require interviews (or give you the opportunity to request one)?

Guys, there's really no need to get this stressed. You're both great applicants with awesome numbers and strong application materials. The difference between you all getting in or not will not come down to whether or not you applied on 1 September.Hildegard15 wrote:I just keep telling myself that I'll still be able to apply early even if they don't get the letters in til October. The fact that you're already waiting on your LORs and it's not even September yet is a pretty good position to be in. Both of you are going to stress some poor person out who checks into this thread in early November and realizes that they still have to ask their peeps.
EDIT For Hilde

But seriously, some poor neurotic KJD will read through this thread in like November and have a stroke when they see that people were stressing about not having LORs in August.Hildegard15 wrote:Says the man whose already been submitting his applications :pDcc617 wrote:

Anyone checking into this thread should know within 3 seconds that we are all bundles of neuroses and should not be the standard by which others compare themselves.

I actually prefer they as a gender neutral pronoun. I think he or she is an awkward construction.Hildegard15 wrote:Please see my correction. There are a lot of neurotic female applicants too.
