Texas Tech C/O 2018 Applicants

Post by connerp93 » Fri Oct 31, 2014 1:50 pm

Didn't see a thread yet so I'll be the first to check in. Applied 10/17 and awaiting completed status currently.
Texas born and raised with a 3.32/159, between Tech and OU, currently at TCU.

Applied and File Complete but not completely sold on it. Tech seems to be a pretty big wild card from what I've seen. Decent placement throughout west Tx and, to some extent, Ft. Worth/Dallas, but a lot of the rest of Tx doesn't seem to respect the Tech law degree much.

I'm originally from Canyon/Amarillo so I can speak to its hold over West Texas but it's not very prevealant in DFW (where I currently live)

Tech Law is generally respected in Texas, and, typically, more Tech grads place in DFW than anywhere else in Texas. If you have questions, feel free to PM me. I'm a grad who practices in Texas.

I did not go to Tech, but my father-in-law did. I've always heard great things as far as passing the bar and hitting the ground running. Tech is a "nuts and bolts" school that definitely places well in West Texas, and I know quite a few in Dallas as well.

Yup. Got a separate email detailing scholarship stuff shortly after the admission email and then a hard copy of the same letter in the mail packet a few days later.

Mine didn't contain anything about schollarships so I called them. Apparently they are being really stingy this year. I am above the medians of both LSAT and GPA and both Baylor and OU gave me 1/2 schollys but tech said they weren't offering anything at this time. I was really dissapointed because I can't afford to go without any scholly money.

I think Baylor at 1/2 would still be more expensive than Tech at sticker. But even so, the Baylor vs. Tech question really boils down to career goals. If you aren't interested in being a litigator, I'm not sure Baylor is where you want to be regardless.

I'm considered out of state at Tech so Baylor and SMU are cheaper options for me with the scholarships I got, and their employment scores are much better. Applied to Tech in anticipation that good scholarship money would make it a contender...

I think Baylor vs. Tech also boils down to bar passage rate, with Baylor consistently having the highest in the state.

In review as of today. I heard Tech personalizes every email. I'm looking forward to it (obviously if accepted)

Mine seemed pretty standard compared with other schools. I didn't have any complaints about it obviously, but I definitely wouldn't consider it personalized.

in via email today. But I didn't get any scholarship information. Is this like everyone else? They said it would be decided in the late spring, but that seems a little weird to me because a lot of us are making our decisions before then. Does scholarship come in the mail?

In state. 25th GPA, above 75th LSAT by several numbers. Its just weird to me that they just wouldnt send an offer immediately.
