I have a dilemma. I currently go to Florida International University as an undergraduate student. However I was planning on transferring schools because I feel that if I stay in FIU I will not get accepted to the top tier law schools. Therefore, I applied to University of Miami and I was granted admission. Is it worth it to spend the money on undergraduate school so I can get into a good law school or does it only depend on LSAT scores and GPA?

Also I want to emphasize that I want to practice corporate law in NYC in the future and competition is serious so I need to go to a top tier law school.

If you can really and truly nail your LSATs and get a decent GPA, it won't matter very much where you go to school (as long as it's accredited) In the end of the day I don't think there is ever a guarantee that you'd get into Harvard or Stanford no matter the score or background. But if you get north of a 175 and have a 3.8+ GPA, I'd say you have a pretty damn good chance no matter where you are applying. Just focus on the more inexpensive option for undergraduate school and really nail those LSAT scores. You can spend a fraction of the money on LSAT tutoring that you'd spend at an expensive institution and further increase your chances for what you are trying to achieve.

Echoing doge, shitloads of people at T6 went to TTTT undergrads. All that really matters is LSAT/GPA/URM-status, followed by your softs like especially interesting work/life experience, THEN followed by maybe the tiniest bump based on your undergrad institution.

If you like FIU, stay there and finish strong. If you don't like the school and think you would really enjoy Miami, then transfer and do well there. Because of the way LSAC GPA is calculated, transferring doesn't really help you or hurt you much unless one school is significantly more difficult than the other.

When I say accredited I mean that they are officially a college that can dispense a degree FIU is most certainly accredited and the honors program is great!

It's all prestige/rankings silliness. T6 vaguely refers to the highest-ranked six or so schools, though HYS (Harvard Yale Stanford) are often lumped in a "league" of their own. You might hear of other tier lumpings like HYS/CCN/MVP, but all these sorts of things are useless when you consider how poor Michigan's job prospects are compared to those other schools, or how great, e.g., Cornell's job placement is next to much higher ranking T14s. TTT and TTTT variably refer to Third Tier Toilets and below, but even that's not fair given that a full ride at a regional school in Podunksville, Flyoverstate might be a much smarter choice for someone who wants to practice in that region vs. paying sticker at certain T14s.
URM = underrepresented minority, and it will vastly increase your chances of acceptance at certain schools.

In the end, job placement and COA (cost of attendance) are really all you should be worried about.
