Willamette Class of '17

Post by atay » Sat Feb 22, 2014 6:11 pm

Hey guys,

I'm a current 1L at Willamette University College of Law and I used this site when I was deciding what school to choose last year. If anyone has any questions about the school please let me know :)

What part of this site helped you to conclude that Willamette was your best option?
Did you get a full ride there and nowhere else?
Not knocking Willamette, I love the area and I might have gone there if I lived in OR.
I am curious about what made you choose Willamette, though.

It depends on what you're looking for. TLS is definitely full of negativity. Actually most of the law schools I visited were full of negativity (*cough Gonzaga cough*). To clarify, TLS is definitely not what made me choose Willamette! I just remembered it was that time of year again when prospects are out in full force and thought I would take a minute to post on here.

Willamette just has a totally different community feeling from any other law school. I got accepted to Tulane, Seattle U, Gonzaga and waitlisted at UW. Willamette definitely gave me more money, after I wrote them a letter they increased my scholarship by 5k. Honestly I don't think I would be this happy anywhere else. Our class is totally supportive and cohesive. I made top 10% first semester. Yesterday I got a two year clerkship at Oregon DOJ. Willamette has a really awesome placement office and the best bar passage rate in Oregon. The state capital, county DA's office, Oregon Supreme Court and Department of Justice are all within two blocks of campus. No other school can offer that.

Accepted 1/30.

I got a phone call while I was at work. (Ironically, in an admissions office)
$30,000 scholarship

I have made a few contacts and this school and I am seriously considering it, but waiting to hear back from #1

Thanks for the information atay. Were you able to negotiate scholarships with any luck? If so, would you mind sharing any experiences? I think if Willamette offered me even a few more dollars, I would commit. I have been admitted to higher ranked schools, but with not as much scholarship $$. Currently weighing prestige vs. cost.
