Kansas Class of 2017
Didn't see a thread for KU so thought I'd start one. Got the acceptance call tonight as well as an e-mail and status checker update. Also offered the Jayhawk scholarship which is full tuition for three years so pretty stoked about that. Definitely moves KU up on my board!

It was pretty good. Dean Mazza was super friendly, as was basically everyone else affiliated with the university. I didn't like some of the stuff they had to say regarding retention of scholarships (the rates of retention were less than stellar and they tried to avoid it), as well as Dean Mazza and the Dean of Career Services not really being on the same page as far as placement in other regions of the country, but everything else they had to say was pretty great.whm0829 wrote:How was ASW? The tour was lackluster. No biggie there really, there just wasn't a ton to see. My biggest issues were with the town itself, and the law school itself, and not necessarily with the information.
Seemed like it might be a great fit for someone wanting to stay in the Midwest/Rockies region. Just not sure if that's something I'm leaning towards.

What was your issue with Lawrence? I've been to college towns all over the country and it's easily top ten (in my less than unbiased opinion). It's also consistently voted one of the top college towns in the nation by much more unbiased sources than I.

Re: Kansas Class of 2017
Maybe living in Gainesville has spoiled me. It came across as a very "one street" town dominated by the university. While my undergrad experience was at a much smaller school, it seemed simply like a bigger version of where I attended. I understand Kansas City is nearby, it just didn't exactly grab me as somewhere I would love to spend, at least, the next three years.jayhawk23ball wrote:What was your issue with Lawrence? To each his own, but what you just described is pretty much the norm for college towns across the country. Most of those that I have visited are about 100,000 people in size and dominated by the university, which is kind of the definition of a college town. Not trying to disagree with you in anyway, just trying to get your perspective on why you disliked Lawrence.

Re: Kansas Class of 2017
I hear ya about the scholarship retention data. I was offered the Jayhawk Scholarship, and my only real concern is the stipulation. While I have no intention of finishing in the bottom half, I'm not willing to shell out an extra $50,000 if I were to lose it. Really, that's the only thing that's holding me up.phaynes1 wrote:It was pretty good. Dean Mazza was super friendly, as was basically everyone else affiliated with the university. Depends on who matriculates, the class size has been downsized by almost 80 so it might be a little rough to make it on.<DC> wrote:Got wait-listed today.

Re: Kansas Class of 2017
Hey everyone!! Unfortunately, I will no longer be attending:( I will be attending school in Oregon after all... Last minute scholarship! Since I want to practice here it makes more sense.
So now I need to rent my apartment to someone else. I rented it in Lawrence, KS - I haven't even moved in yet. Have you rented something already? Or, if you make any other KU friends, maybe you can let them know that I'm renting the apartment?
Here are the details:
I have rented an apartment at Hawks Pointe Apartments. The apartment is $570 a month (includes cancel and internet) 550 square feet, and within walking distance to campus. Also, there are no move in deposits!! 24 hour gym included. Unfortunately, I will not be joining the Jayhawk class of 2017 this fall and will now be attending school in state. I am looking for a sub letter to take over my lease. Lease runs August 31, 2014- July 15, 2014. You can message me here or text/call me at 503-349-4044. Thanks!!
