Hey, good luck! If Drexel had a part-time evening program, I would've considered attending. Unfortunately, I can't quit my job

I went to Drexel for my freshman year of undergrad; it was a tough school academically (I only transferred because I didn't like living in Philly). I'm sure their law program will move up in the rankings quickly!

I'll be applying sending out my app this weekend. Kind of using them as a safety school, but agreed, I'm intrigued by the two-year program. Plus it's geographically close to me so that's a plus.

It sounds like they are looking for even more money. BTW the offer I got was fantastic, and their stip was "maintaining good academic standing" which is a great thing.

Yeah, that's very interesting actually... Somebody told me that they mimic the exact curriculum as Temple but since they are a fairly new school they obviously don't have the same reputation. It does seem like they are trying to boost their law program though.

I wouldn't be surprised if the school's ranking goes up significantly over the next few years

Yeah, I'm really re-thinking this. At first, I wasn't going to apply, but their two year program does look like a nice opportunity--especially with co-op.

Maybe I can live off of loans for two years.

COL in Philly isn't really that bad (in comparison to other big cities). If you have a good LSAT 160+, you'll probably get some serious $$$.

Thanks for taking questions. Have you participated in the Co-op program? If so, do you feel it has helped you in securing a job upon graduating?

So Drexel has both Co-op and Clinical programs. Co-ops are done per semester and clinics run the entire school year. You'll get great firsthand experience in both programs, but the clinics allow for more hands-on client representation. The vast majority of students participate in one of the experiential learning programs before graduating. These programs have been and will continue to be a great way to get jobs upon graduating because of the real world experience and knowledge they provide. Employers eat that up. My original interest was to participate in a clinic, but I didn't schedule my classes in a way that allowed me to do that. In order to represent clients you have to be a Certified Legal Intern, which requires that you have completed Evidence and Professional Responsibility. I didn't take both courses prior to the Clinic registration period. While co-ops are available to 2Ls, most people wait till 3L year to do them because by then you're tired of sitting in a classroom, tired of taking exams, and you are ready to work. Even though people rave about it, the Co-op program has never appealed to me. I just had no desire to get dressed up, go to work, and then go to class. I guess I'm just trying to postpone the working world until after graduation and cruise through my last year. Naturally, I've had to use other avenues to gain the experience I've missed out on from not participating in either program.

What's the employment outlook looking like?

Also, I'd likely live somewhere outside the city and commute in (I would like a slightly larger place with somewhere to take out/ walk my 2 dogs). Any suggestions of suburbs close to the nearest train line?

Public transit is provided by Septa, which services Philly and the surrounding suburbs (Montgomery County, Bucks County, Delaware County, Chester County, one county in New Jersey and one in Delaware). There is also the Patco that goes from Philly to Camden County, New Jersey. I'd avoid the Camden area, but any of the others are nice and are very accessible to Septa. You can find larger places (homes with yards) in the far north part of the city and row homes in the southwest area .

I can't provide you with any employment numbers from last year's class, but from my personal knowledge most people had jobs by the end of the summer. Overall, employment is looking up. Drexel has a great reputation in the area and the alumni network is growing. Even without the best grades, if your resume shows plenty of experience, you'll have a job by the time the bar rolls around, but likely a lot sooner than that. I know some 3Ls who secured employment before this semester ended.

Hi, I live in the area and if you can afford it (I don't say that to sound snobby; unfortunately it's just a very expensive area) I'd recommend living along the Main Line, either in Treddyfrin-Easttown, Radnor, or Lower Merion township. They're along the Paoli-Thorndale SEPTA line, which has express trains during rush-hour, which allows for a relatively short commute. You'd get off at 30th street station, which is about 3 blocks from Drexel.

Thanks for help. My girlfriend is a pharmacist so it gives me a little more freedom with where I'm living. I saved a little over my few years working so I'll put it towards living expenses as well.

Same thing happened to me. You just have to call admissions and ask them to clarify it and tell them that you are more interested in the 2 year program and they'll re-evaluate it for you and admit you to the 2 year program, unless they really think you're not a good fit.

I applied early December and heard back within a few days - $40k/yr. That's appealing plain and simple. Drexel still has a ways to go working its reputation up in Philadelphia, but with Villanova falling off due to a scandal and Temple showing lower than expected employment, Drexel has a real place to use it's co-op program to move grads into positions. I'm still weighing all my options, but there's a possibility you'll find me studying on Market St. next fall.
