Suffolk Law c/o 2017 (c/o 2018 evening division) Admissions
think this is first thread for suffolk.
3.19 and 159 numbers. seems solid for suffolk.
applied 11/13 to evening division. no word on any movement.
expecting to decide between suffolk and nusl. lots of factors.

I applied last year to Suffolk's evening program (I accepted at a different school) and I heard around the same time as you. I found out via status checker but received an acceptance letter a few days later. They never emailed. I remember they also sent a nice holiday card. Congrats!TheHarveySpecter wrote:Accepted 12/11/13. No e-mail or anything. Just happened to log in to status check today.

Thanks. Not sure if you withdrew before it would have been out, but I get the sense that letters/admissions packets/scholarship stuff, etc. comes out later on?Charlie190 wrote:I applied last year to Suffolk's evening program (I accepted at a different school) and I heard around the same time as you. For what it's worth I spoke to admissions this morning. Welcome packets and that sort of thing are going out in today's mail.

Yes, because the purpose of this forum is to discuss acceptances, denials, and waitlists. If you're suggesting that this isn't serious because no one should go to Suffolk, you need to read the rules of this forum:The Dark Kite wrote:Was this a serious post?
Normal discussion between applicants is fine, but this forum is NOT the place for non-applicants to argue or debate which law schools are worth attending and under what circumstances. The threads here typically involve people who have already decided to apply and are seeking or sharing news on the state of their applications. You and them and everyone else are all free to discuss whether or not attending is a good idea in the appropriate forum, not here.

Has anyone received word on merit scholarships from Suffolk? Accepted in December, no word since besides a mailing on applying for need-based aid.

Given previous timelines (see older threads) and deadlines for FAFSA, Need Access, etc., I don't think that stuff typically roles out until March. I am also eagerly awaiting.
Did anyone else notice that it is required to have a parent send in a signed copy of their 2013 tax return? How ridiculous is that? They mine enough information out of you on FAFSA and Need Access that they shouldn't have to errode your financial privacy any further.

Thanks for the info! I actually spoke with the Financial Aid office a week or so ago, and they said you can send in a letter to appeal the requirement of a signed Parents' tax return. I would be an independent student turning 30 this year, so a Parents' tax return is not really relevant for me.

Interesting. Maybe I'll try that just to save them the trouble. Thanks.

Hi,
I applied about 2 weeks ago and shortly thereafter received the email for my status login information, I just received another email with same information this morning but with my password hidden, has this happened to anyone else? I am assuming just a technical glitch that it was resent and doesn't indicate anything. Thanks.

Hey I have very similar stats to you and applied to NESL (New England Law) and Suffolk. I got a full tuition scholarship to NESL and the $10,000 scholarship to Suffolk, both for evening division. The need access form is horrendous but I also finished that up just need to send in the tax forms now.TheHarveySpecter wrote:received letter from dean with Trustee Academic Scholarship offer for $10,000.
I am wondering if the 10000 scholarship swayed your decision at all or if you're still waiting for financial aid info from anywhere else? Did you apply to NESL Evening at all?
I am trying to decide between Suffolk and New England. I know this whole forum basically says don't go to either but just wondering.

Did not apply to New England. I am most likely not going to receive merit aid anywhere else so Suffolk is probably my go to. will be attempting to negotiate for more money (haven't seen need-based aid yet if I even qualify. maybe I should call?) northeastern and BU have yet to get back to me and I was waitlisted at BC. hard to turn down full ride given the choice, but suffolk does very well in the market (i work at a big firm now).

Has anyone spoken with Dean Sims before regarding scholarships and financial aid? I was asked to set up a phone meeting with her in response to a negotiation letter I wrote.

From ATL (http://abovethelaw.com/2014/03/the-u-s- ... restige/2/)
On the flip side of that coin, Suffolk Law in Boston went from #144 last year to unranked this year. That’s $45K to go to a now unranked law school in the competitive Boston market. Suffolk was ranked #135 just two years ago. People graduating from Suffolk Law this spring started off going to a middling law school in Boston, but they’re graduating from an expensive private school that isn’t even ranked. And it’s not like Suffolk is going to give any of its students a discount or rebate for the school’s fall from U.S. News grace. My prediction for Suffolk Law graduates: Pain.
Suffolk students, current and prosective, what are your thoughts?

She was out sick I was told. Spoke to a few other people. Basically told to hang on until 4/1 when more financial decisions would be made.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
