Submitted my app tonight. I really like UGA, but I don't know if I can bring myself to start saying "Go Dawgs."

2L at Georgia here. Ask if you have questions. Good luck with the admissions process, all.

Greg -- Your profile shows you have a music performance degree... I like you already. Are there other music majors / musicians in your class? I'm wondering if my UG degree will be an advantage or disadvantage in the application process.gregfootball2001 wrote:2L at Georgia here. Ask if you have questions. Hey 97. I know of a few people here with undergrad music degrees - one with a voice degree (well, two with me), and a few with piano. I imagine it helps your admissions by a little bit - as does anything outside the norm - but it certainly won't make up for a low LSAT. That being said, diversity in all forms is a good thing for admissions and the job search. I'm pretty darn sure I got a screener or two cause I was the 'opera guy.'crg0097 wrote:Greg -- Your profile shows you have a music performance degree... I like you already. Best of luck with the admissions process! Let me know if you have any other questions.
Oh, and should it come up later - Blue Sky is the best bar in Athens.

Good to know. I don't mind being known as the 'flute girl' if it gives me an edge. We'll see how the LSAT goes...gregfootball2001 wrote:Hey 97. I'll have to check out Blue Sky the next time I visit. I was in town last weekend for the UNT/UGA game (North Texas is my alma mater). The campus was nice, but I'll admit my favorite part of Athens was Terrapin brewery and the downtown scene. Had dinner at Trapeze and was pleasantly surprised with the massive beer selection. Sure seems like Athens is a great distraction for law school.

Hey Greg!
Thanks for taking questions! I was wondering about merit based scholarships. Do you know anything about much they usually give out or what kind of numbers you need to have in order to receive merit based?
Thanks again

Np! A 2L helped me when I was applying, so I'm doing the same.wsparker wrote:Hey Greg!

Tough question. I had a 3.3/164, and got 2k a year and in-state. But I was a professional opera singer, so somewhat unique. I know that they do give out the in-state equalizer quite a bit (for those coming out of state), which is nice - that makes the tuition 18k-ish.

My status checker went from "application under review" to "you have not applied yet" today. I checked it randomly this evening and have no idea why this happened. I've been under review since 9/09. Has anyone else had this happen/know if anything is going on?

Hey greg! very nice of you for being helpful and I really appreciate your help.gregfootball2001 wrote:2L at Georgia here. Ask if you have questions. Good luck with the admissions process, all.
1- I was wondering about the Georgia legal market? What's the general feel about it from a 2L perspective?.is it much better compared to 2008/2009.
2-And is it true that all big law jobs in GA are in atlanta. Does this put uga students at a disadvantage?. Once again thanks!

Mine also says "You still need to apply!", though I've been under review for a few weeks.
Hmm.

+1
I've been under review for at least a week... checked this morning and got the same "still need to apply"
Optimism wants me to think that this means maybe they've made decisions, buttttt probably just a technical issue

Re: UGA c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
I'm a 1L at UGA so I can't comment on how this year's OCI went but I did just speak to someone at career services saying big law is usually only possible for kids in the top 15% and you might have an outside shot if you are top 20% and those numbers seem to line up with law school transparency. Most people are targeting Atlanta but I imagine if you have ties to another state and get good grades you could land a big firm gig somewhere else. All of this is grade dependent though so if you are going to UGA you can gun for big law but plan on not getting it and have a debt amount that you are comfortable with for if/when you do strike out going for big law. That's at least my advice.deebanger wrote:Hey greg! very nice of you for being helpful and I really appreciate your help.gregfootball2001 wrote:2L at Georgia here. Ask if you have questions.
