Waitlist chances

Post by mewalke1 » Thu Apr 25, 2013 3:59 pm

I am waitlisted at a whole lot of schools like I know a lot of people are this cycle.

Does anyone know in general what are the chances of getting accepted into a school after being put on the wait list?

high or low? 10% or 80% on average? Im sure it varies from year to year but is there a general rule of thumb?

thanks

And if there is already a topic I this I would love to know.

Too many variables to answer this, depends on which schools, where you fall numbers wise for those schools, what kind of WL u were put on, how much you push to get off, and the list of factors goes on and on.........

I talked to someone at a school where I'm wait listed and he says it's difficult to say because it changes each years. It depends on if the student doesn't want to go anymore, gets a better offer, or if the economy picks up and they get a job instead.

There's plenty of articles online about being proactive to boost your chances. Best of luck.

Here are some interesting numbers, some university's accept 80% of wait listed students, but the average is 10%.
