Howard University School of Law Class of 2016
Hey everyone!
Long time lurker, first time poster. I haven't seen a Class of 2016 board yet for Howard, so I thought I would create one. I just got my acceptance a few days ago, still waiting on the acceptance package, but I am about 90% sure I will be attending. I am so excited to become a part of the Howard legacy.
I'm starting this thread to meet others who applied and who are going, and I would like to get a head start on looking for housing, etc. I would really like to live very close to the law school, which is pricey but worth it in my opinion (at least for the first year). So if anyone is set on going and wouldn't mind paying ~ $1,200 a month to be literally down the block from the law school, send me a message.
OK.. discuss!

I am applying as well but I hate starting threads so I didn't bother. Definitely liking the price on this university and employment stats look about the same as any Tier 2 schools. A dedicated alumni network should definitely come in handy as well, see as most Howard alum have a bit more loyalty to the brand than other schools tend to garner.
@Howardgirl - Good housing wouldn't be the worst investment though if you are planning to live with other people you can probably do better than 1200 a month, unless you're including utilities in that and expect high costs. When did you send in your application and go complete? Also, did they give you any scholarship information in the email?

@Kurohoshi I sent my app in 11/7, went complete 11/15, and got my acceptance e-mail 1/17. Nope, there was no scholarship information included in the e-mail.
And I'm sure that I could do a bit better if I were to get a 3 or 4 bedroom apartment and have more roommates, but I figure law school will already be stressful enough, so I would only want 1 other roommate. I'm looking at a few apartment complexes and I am liking two of them that are each a 3 block walk to the law school. One of them is 2400 for a two bedroom with no utilities, the other is 2650 for a 2 bedroom, all utilities included.

Thanks for the info about your timing. That's a really long wait. I applied on 1/3 and sent in my verification letter about a month before that but for some reason I wasn't complete until 1/14. It'll be a while before I hear anything it seems.howardgirl wrote:@Kurohoshi I sent my app in 11/7, went complete 11/15, and got my acceptance e-mail 1/17. I understand the sentiment. But if you're worried about the stress of a roommate, why not go for a single. Found this after searching Craigslist for all of 2 minutes --LinkRemoved-- - 13 minutes away from campus (walking) and within your price range. The only places around are embassies and American U so I don't think safety will be a huge issue for a girl living alone

Applied: 11/3
Accepted: 1/17 via email.
Long Wait!! But it was worth it. Choosing to attend Howard University School of Law over several higher ranked schools (Wake, Temple). Looking forward to visiting the school soon and begin my search for reasonable housing.

@Kuro I don't know why checking Craigslist skipped my mind. Thanks! That apartment looks like everything I am looking for as well. I wish it would be available in a few months.
@FunInTheSun Would you mind sharing how much scholarship money you got? I am really hoping on getting some scholarship money, but my e-mail didn't mention it.
@Aphi We have almost date twins. Did your e-mail mention anything about scholarships?

@FunInSun Awesome! What are the stipulations? I hear they are harsh.

Top 15% to retain it. It gets reduced if in top 20, 25, or 33.

I'm guessing APhi and Howardgirl took the October LSAT and applied as soon as you guys got score back.
@Howardgirl no problem. And I'm sure that similar offers will be available in a few months. Students who are living in the area haven't renewed leases yet so the ones moving out will open up a whole slew of similar apartments, with possibly even better deals.

Hello everyone! I received my acceptance email from HUSL last week. They didn't mention any scholarship information in my email but I'm hoping that $ is offered in the official packet that I am to receive via postal mail.

No idea who you managed to go complete the day after submission. It seems like it took close to 2 weeks for most people. But they still didn't get back to you for that 8 weeks so I guess they are sticking to that.turtlepower13 wrote:Hello everyone! I received my acceptance email from HUSL last week. @Kurohoshi I submitted the verification form prior to submitting my app. Once they received my CAS info my app must have went complete immediately.

Yeah I figured that but I submitted my ahead as well. 3 weeks ahead of my application, in fact. Still took 2 weeks after submission for my app to go complete.turtlepower13 wrote:@Kurohoshi I submitted the verification form prior to submitting my app. Once they received my CAS info my app must have went complete immediately.

Hi, all!
I applied on January 17, 2013
Went complete on January 29, 2013
Accepted with $$ on February 7, 2013
They sent me an acceptance email (that mentioned scholarship money) that I didn't see at first because it went to my spam folder. The first email that I actually saw from Howard was an invitation to their open house which congratulated me on being accepted.
I will definitely be attending HUSL come Fall 2013.
Is anyone else sure about attending? Will anyone be at the open house on March 8th?

Hey congrats. Debating the open house currently. My situation was the opposite of yours where I got the open house invitation in my spam folder and that actually came a day or two before the acceptance email.Naija wrote:Hi, all!

@kurohoshi Thanks! Congrats to you as well. Have you decided on a school yet?
@howardgirl Yes, I am Nigerian! And I agree, we should meet up. I'll pm you my fb link.
I sent in my seat deposit and I've begun searching for housing. It seems extremely stressful already! I would love to live close to the school for my first year. I went to Howard for undergrad and the law school is in a much nicer area than the main campus. I'm willing to pay a little extra but I don't want to be bound to a 12 month lease. Hopefully, i see more options available as August approaches.

Congrats to everyone admitted! I've also been admitted and considering as a possibility.. the cost of living scares me a bit. I've also been admitted and considering UDC-DCSL (primarily due to $$$). I've never visited either campus but they both seem to be in the same general area in DC. Any idea how much an apartment can cost in that area??

Hey everyone!
Congrats to all admitted! I'm definitely leaning towards attending Howard, but staying in NYC is also on the table. The culture at Howard, as well as being in a new place, is a big draw for me. However, I've heard that DC is quite pricey and staying at home would be easier on the pockets. How are you guys feeling? What drew you guys to Howard?
