FYI, this gives you a good way to compare not only the percentage, but also what law firms are hiring from U of I and its closest competitors (aka, take a look at Minnesota, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, etc).

No I legitimately applied to UIUC. I value schools that give flash drives to admitted students VERY HIGHLY.

I think the FB group would be more successful if you had someone from Admissions email it out to admitted students. Right now it it is just TLS'ers lol.

Although, if the group stays at only 9 members, maybe that will significantly boost our chances of employment at graduation. Just maybe.

Imagine it. 9 kids, but still 3 sections. That curve would be ridiculous. But hey, we'd all make law review!dewdawn wrote:if there were only 9 kids this year...illiniguy1551 wrote:Although, if the group stays at only 9 members, maybe that will significantly boost our chances of employment at graduation. Re: UIUC Class of 2016
Hey all,
Just put down my deposit and am trying to figure out where to live...I heard a lot of law students live down in Savoy in a place called the Village. Would those familiar with U-C recommend living down there? It seems a little out of the way and I don't want it to be too much of a hassle to get to school everyday. Thoughts on living there/elsewhere? Would you suggest living alone during your 1L year?

Re: UIUC Class of 2016
A ton of people live in the Village, some love it and stay there all three years, some hate it and move out after 1l year. Disadvantages that I know of - far from campus, (there is a shuttle but it's not always the most reliable. If you're the kind of person who likes to stay on campus all day it's not a big deal, but if you like to study at home I could see it being annoying), I know people who have fought with management over various things, the set up of some of the apartments are kind of annoying, my friend who lives there has to share a back balcony with her neighbors. It's also far from any cool bars or restaurants but there's a lot of law school parties there so it might balance out. I think you need a roomate to live there too but I'm not sure.abduction12 wrote:Hey all,

I live near downtown Champaign with a company called Royse & Brinkmeyer and have been here all 3 years. I love them and love the apartment and couldn't imagine living anywhere else.
Whatever you do make sure you look up the rental company with the Tenant Union. It's a free campus service that will tell you all the complaints about a company. They'll also review your lease for you before you sign it.
I think living with a roomate is fine if it's something you are used to and comfortable with. I've never really heard too many roomate horror stories. But if you're doing it just to save money and then live in a place like the Village or Indigo Place etc, it seems kind of silly to me. I'd rather live by myself in a cheaper and less fancy place. But it's personal preference, I doubt it would have any effect on your grades or anything.
e: also here's a good post from a current 3l about the Village:

I've need lived in a big complex like the village, but the above comments seem correct.abduction12 wrote:Hey all,

Personally, I like being able to walk/bike to class and bars. I've had good experiences or heard good things about Barr, Weiner companies, and green st. realty just to name a few. Definitely trust the tenant union more than my advice, this is just one person's experience and word of mouth.
Feel free to PM me a property you look at online and I can tell you more about the landlord/location.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
