I was waiting for this.... applied 11-9, completed 11-12... looking forward to hearing back from them. I live right down the road from them so I'm hoping to get in and possibly commute.

According to LSN responses started going out early in the first week of December, so hopefully we'll start hearing some news soon.

Do we need to do something special with our LORs when applying? I've been waiting on my complete status, and everything is checked off as having arrived except my LORs. Did this happen for anyone else?

No. It took a while for mine as well. I called and they said it just meant that the lady checking it all in did not get to your file yet. They said wait.

Hoping to hear something soon from both Camden and Newark. This cycle is really dragging.

How do you like the school and the surrounding area? I will be applying in a few days for the part time program, however my numbers are below median..Also, what year are you?

The campus is small but very nice, and the surrounding area is perfectly fine if you want to walk off campus and grab a bite to eat. There are certain places that students just know not to go to (the liquor store under the bridge, anything north of the school) but otherwise it's perfectly safe. There are policemen on practically every street corner 24 hours a day. My classmates are very chill, none of them are the "gunner" type that you might read about on this site.lawyer211 wrote:How do you like the school and the surrounding area? That's good to hear, how are you enjoying your 1L year thus far? How has the experience been? Do you work full-time? If so, how do you balance everything?

Would you mind PM'ing me as well? I'm debating between working my current job while doing the PT program or not working at all and doing full time. I'd like to hear your opinion on the PT program.
This is all pending my admission btw, which I hope to see some movement in soon.

Re: Rutgers Camden c/o 2016 Applicants
I am a current full time 1L and since TLS was very helpful for me, I figured I'd offer some guidance.
Due to the fallout from the failed merger, we have an incredibly small class (about 125 to start). We had 3 sections in the fall of about 37-45 kids. We now have 2 sections of about 60 in each. The class average on our exams were all around 3.05
Because of our small class size, pretty much everyone knows each other. Out of the 120 kids are so, I would say I know 90 or so by name already. This is a blessing and a curse because while the atmosphere is pretty friendly there does exist a little bit of a high school vibe, but I expect the class of 2016 to be back to around 200-250 or so.
All of you who wind up accepting should absolutely take advantage of the jumpstart program where you take contracts over the summer and take one less class in the fall. It makes life that much easier and gives you big advantage in your next semester compared to the other students who have an extra course.
I live in the brand new graduate apartments (330 Cooper St.) which are pretty convenient and the rooms are very good size. One thing I must strongly recommend though is anyone planning to live in Camden MUST bring their car. The area surrounding the law school is safe, but there are no grocery stores in walking distance and while I can get to Philly in 10 minutes door to door being able to hop in the car and go to the upscale town of Cherry Hill to get food and stuff is very important.
And most importantly, New Jersey law allows all incoming graduate students to pay in-state tuition as long as you meet two requirements (1) obtain a NJ drivers license (2) sign a 12 month lease in the state OR live on campus for the academic year.
No matter what state you come from all of you will wind up paying 25,000 a year which is a bargain compared to most other schools. Granted Rutgers doesn't give out as much scholarship money as other schools, but for those paying sticker or close to it, Rutgers is one of the best places for your money.

I also want to correct something my fellow PT student said earlier. They do have patrolling security guards, however they are not policemen. They do not carry a gun, but there is always at least one officer nearby.
I have been taking classes here since June and have not once felt in danger. The area is very depressing though and you'll get homeless people asking you for money, but other than that, it's pretty safe.

Would you be able to comment on how the failed merger has impacted the school in terms of summer internships or SAs? I know this is a longshot question and will totally understand if you can't answer it.
Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

InGoodFaith, would you care to PM me as well regarding the PT program? Like SoJerz13, I am also currently debating between working my current paralegal job while doing the PT program or just going full time. Again, all conditional based on my acceptance (which I am anxiously awaiting..in state tuition at RU-C is just too attractive)
