Re: In at Harvard
I just received a JS/KB 1 and would like some input on how to prep, that way I can join you guys as an admit. I'm willing to personally message you if you're open to helping me out a bit and letting me know what questions to prep for...etc. Thank you so much guys and congrats on getting in; I really hope I can do the same!

Thanks!Blessedassurance wrote:The dining hall (hark) is good but expensive. They weigh the food and you have to pay according to the weight of the food. You can however rely entirely on that. There are tools in the kitchen to cook, if you want to do that. If you're into Chinese food there's a Chinese food truck pretty close to Gropius on Oxford street that's pretty cheap (like 5-6 bucks a plate or thereabouts). Most people in the dorms just eat out, or do a combination of eating out and cooking. The nearest eating places are concentrated around Harvard Square or towards the other direction on Massachusetts Ave.vividviolin wrote:What do people usually do for food if they live in the dorms? Are the dining halls good enough to rely on for the most part for three years? Are the shared kitchens in Gropius usable/supplied with tools for actual cooking (not just pasta/cereal/sandwiches), or is that difficult?

Don't worry, there aren't too many people where I'm at either. I am meeting up with a few of the other people from my school who got into HLS soon, though, so that should be fun.honeybadger12 wrote:And I'm kinda sad I'm missing all the meetups; don't suppose anyone would want to join me for drinks in Shanghai...honeybadger12 wrote:Facebook just explodedJedBartlett wrote:Is it me or did the FB page suddenly get a lot more active?

Re: In at Harvard
Are all the people in the FB group 100% on attending HLS? I'm waiting to find out about one more school before making my final decision, but I feel like there's already so much stuff for admitted students to get to know each other and start figuring stuff out. Should I join it even if I'm not definitely attending?

I am in the same boat as you; there is one school I would potentially choose over Harvard. Even so, I am going to one of the hangouts and I think it's fine to go.kittonmittons wrote:Are all the people in the FB group 100% on attending HLS? That said, getting to know and potentially developing relationships with HLS admits before you find out about your other school may make you more (or less) likely to want to go to Harvard. If you are afraid this might bias your decision, I would take that into account.

I'm also not 100% Harvard, in the group, and planning on going to the gatherings. I can't see it hurting in the long-run and meeting some of my fellow admits might help me make an informed decision, so, why not?hopeful16 wrote:I am in the same boat as you; there is one school I would potentially choose over Harvard. Re: In at Harvard
I mean, this topic has been beaten to death and different people have different experiences and different groups of friends and different financial situations. But taking into account income based financial aid, LIPP, better job prospects, no letter grades, the alternative offer would have to be very good, and the applicant in very particular circumstances to choose even CCN over H. IMO.spicyyoda17 wrote:Not even if you get awesome scholly $$ elsewhere?delusional wrote:With the possible exception of Yale or Stanford, don't.hopeful16 wrote:I am in the same boat as you; there is one school I would potentially choose over Harvard.kittonmittons wrote:Are all the people in the FB group 100% on attending HLS? My particular experience involved Harvard costing about 30k more than Penn. (Didn't get much money from Columbia and wasn't going to move to Duke, Michigan, UVA or Chicago.) I have no doubt that this was the right decision for me. I know only a couple people in Penn and Columbia, but they don't have jobs. I am concerned about not lasting in biglaw but I don't have to worry that I won't be able to meet my payments because of LIPP.
Of course, if you have a full scholly at Columbia and your parents live next door, $0 debt is better than $210k at H. If I had to value H over C, I would say based totally on my sentiment, iunno, $60-80k?
Also, this is cheesy, but I posted the original comment while I was enjoying a particular class.

Anyone know how long the 1L2B address takes to respond to questions? I sent an email a few days ago about whether they received something, but haven't received a response yet.

Ooph, that's a long time. It's not urgent though, so there isn't a rush.Kionaltski wrote:I sent them an email about being a summer intern for a HLS professor.
