Chapman Law c/o 2016
Didn't see this one yet. Just got acceptance phone call today. Full ride ($44k/yr.). 165/3.27. Making me think really hard.

Just got the call as well, admitted along with a full scholarship.
Pretty pumped to say the least, first acceptance along with the first phone call. Didn't really know what to say.

Same here. Free law school is very, very tempting. And I expect that they will continue to rise in the rankings, it's a decent school by any metric.CalPolyLaw wrote:Just got the call as well, admitted along with a full scholarship.

Having this option will make the rest of this cycle pretty tough.
Do you know if the area around Chapman is nice, haven't had a chance to see the school yet? Also what makes you feel they will rise in the rankings?

I had a lot of friends that did undergrad there. The neighborhood is very nice and college oriented. The rent there isn't as daunting as you would find a little closer to the beach. The campus is small and actually very beautiful. It's not a bad deal.CalPolyLaw wrote:Having this option will make the rest of this cycle pretty tough.

I think they will continue to rise because they seem to have some money to throw around and are really going after better students with big $$$. I think they really want to be a player in OC, especially in light of UCI being ranked within the next few years.
What were your numbers if you don't mind my asking?

That's good to know.. I had a cousin graduate undergrad at Chapman, but never made it to the campus. My numbers are 161/3.75
Excited to see what kind of offers I get from other schools, I hope this is only a sign of things to come!!

Chapman UG student here. It's a beautiful, up-to-date campus with a great faculty. I've taken several Political Science classes taught by the law faculty and they are nothing short of amazing.
Though employment prospects are down there (as with everywhere), they do place well in local firms and government jobs. With full scholarships, I'd say it's worth considering if you are interested in living and working in Southern CA.
Others will warn you about schools that are lower in the rankings, but I've seen plenty of Chapman grads nab some good jobs in OC. Biglaw is difficult, if not impossible, but there a good jobs in smaller firms.
(Also applied. Accepted with full ride last week.)

I went to the open house on 12/12 and was very impressed. The facility is modern and really beautiful. Rank is a factor for me, it only helps with job prospects. But a full ride here feels pretty good after meeting the dean, learning more about the faculty, and visiting the school.
This definitely feels like a school on the rise, though your prospects are going to be best in SoCal where it has name recognition. Very excited about the possibility of taking part in mock trial and moot court, the courtrooms are gorgeous. Overall, this has become a serious candidate for me. Stats: 165/3.3, offered full ride on 11/28.

Re: Chapman Law c/o 2016
I applied to this school last go around and wasn't accepted, but I'm also an out of state candidate. I went to CA to earn my masters degree so I lived around the LA area.
I did a West Coast law school college trip though and though that Chapman's campus was nice. I know someone that graduated from Chapman in the last few years and he did say that he is doing well for himself, but he went into a solo-type practice (with a friend or two) so he's not in big law or anything. If you are interested in working for a smaller firm in the Southern CA area, this would be a solid school. However, if you want anything outside of the Southern Cal area, I wouldn't suggest it as folks aren't going to know it. However, the area around the school is cute and appeared safe.
If coming from out of state, understand that EVERYTHING in CA is more expensive. The only thing that was less expensive to me there was actually getting educated. Rent was high, groceries was high, gas was high. Fees to park everywhere. Seriously think about all of this with any CA school as CA has a glut of attorneys/ schools.

Were you guys notified of your acceptances before receiving these phone calls? Do we know if these phone calls are for scholarship candidates only? Or are they for every offer of admission?

Re: Chapman Law c/o 2016
@Glitzer14--I don't know if the phone calls are for scholarship candidates only. The woman on the phone who called to tell me that I had been admitted (on 13 Dec) didn't tell me anything about the scholarship. I only learned of it when I got my acceptance packet about a week later (21 Dec). It could be that they only tell scholarship candidates, but even when they call, they don't necessarily tell you that you received a scholarship. Also, I submitted my application on 29 Nov in case you're curious to know.
Best thing to do to inquire about the status of your application would be to check online (http://www.chapman.edu/law/admission/check-status.aspx). The status of my application was updated online on 14 Dec.
I hope that helps and that you hear about an admissions decision soon if you haven't already!

What were the stipulations like for those who got a full ride? I may have to shoot them an app.

A rather steep 3.0 stipulation.

I was admitted via a phone call the week before Christmas. Got a 25,000/year scholarship. Not too bad at all, but that 3.0 stip is killer. The material that came with said 70 of 107 recipients who entered in the fall of 2011 have lost or had their awards decreased.

That stat is frightening. Especially since they have a 2.8 median. I have also applied there and have tried to express my interest in the school. I have gotten two phone calls from them both being students asking if I had any questions about student life and all. Each time my dreams of my first acceptance were dashed

Did anyone else get the e-mail about the scholars weekend? It includes airfare and hotel accommodations.. pretty snazzy. Is anyone planning on going? I was offered close to a full ride and it looks pretty appealing.. Though the median is 2.8, if I am well above admissions standards, is it not a safe bet that I would preform within the top 50%? Free law school sounds pretty spectacular..

I'm in the same boat. I don't get to take advantage of the airfare and hotel because I'm local, but it was a sweet offer.calicali wrote:Did anyone else get the e-mail about the scholars weekend? I would like to feel like I can beat a 3.0. But as anyone will tell you here, you just never know. But I'm thinking hard about their offer, it takes a lot of the risk out of going to law school.

I mean, if we can't beat median at Chapman we probably wouldn't be able to beat median at schools ranked 60+ spots higher (we would be competing against students with higher statistics and therefore theoretically relatively more competitive), which are the kinds of acceptances I'm getting. Hypothetically, if I took an offer from Pep or Loyola, and couldn't beat median, would the job prospects still be worth the tuition? ... Just a few thoughts

I am pretty excited about the possibility of a full scholarship, however the 3.0 stip does make me worried.
I have always got grades close to the top in all my undergrad classes, but law school is a different thing.
Maybe I am just psyching myself out.......

I just received my acceptance call today. Full ride (164/3.2 AA male). It would be great for its location, but still hard to overlook employment outcomes from the school. With that said, they were my safety, and the full ride will definitely make me think. My first acceptance and therefore as of now the place I will be attending if nothing else works out (assuming I don't get off W&L at UVA )
