Accepted today via email! Excited! Now I have to go back and read this thread!Valera wrote:SD Reception was great. I didn't get as far as a deposit button...it doesn't let me click on admitted students (but still can't tell if I should be able to, it's just the only bold option) and there's no way to log in. I think remember reading (somewhere here) that the login information was sent in acceptance package, if indeed one is accepted. So yea, still waiting...
When did you apply??
ps- Thanks for posting the link for others! Meant to, then forgot...
No problem, I submitted my application on 2/28 so I'm not expecting to hear a decision this quickly...
For those of you that have been accepted, were you able to create an account and log in with the link above before you were accepted?
AABergq,
There should be a small link above admitted students that says "Log In," next to "Main Menu"
@ FlyingNorth:
What do you use to log in?? I see that button, but when I enter the username and password I created (the one that opened the account in the first place, leading to an email to this link) it says it's invalid. So you can get past that to see the deposit info?

Someone was asking--I applied on 1/21. LSAT above 75th, from a very well-regarded undergrad, excellent softs, 10 years work experience. Good luck!

Re: UC Hastings c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
DEFINITELY let them know of your higher LSAT score and DO NOT DELAY on this!!! A new, higher LSAT score update is not a LOCI!150s_or_bust wrote:Waitlisted here, should I email admission and let them know that my Feb score is higher? Please advise.
You might call admissions and ask them how they want you to proceed, but this is substantive and important information to your application file. If the school has not already noted this updated score (which they may not have due to the recency) they certainly will want to be informed. Call admissions ASAP in the morning. As always, be polite, professional, and courteous, but ask them if they want you to file or submit any formal notification. At the very least, they will likely thank you for the call and request an updated CRS report from LSAC.
Edit: They may be updated by LSAC of this anyway, but you are not calling or contacting concerning the Waitlist; you are contacting them regarding an update to your file (and an important one), to ensure that they are aware of this new and important information. As we all know, the LSAT is a substantial component of your application; this is not something you want to merely hope gets noticed. Good luck!

congrats again to those who all got accepted!
sort of surprised i still haven't heard back since going complete 12/21. low LSAT, but 3.8 gpa f/ uc berkeley, 26, put myself through first half of school as a single mom while working, volunteered at an asylum clinic for almost a year (that's the clinic i want to do at hastings- refugee & asylum), so can't figure out why they can't just decide
but thinking no news is better than bad news..
sorry, just venting!

if it makes you feel any better my LSAT is slightly below their median and I also graduated from UC Berkeley with a 3.8 GPA. it sounds like you have better softs than me too!! hope you hear good news soon.AABergq wrote:congrats again to those who all got accepted!

OC was fun, although it didn't really sway me. Lawyers sure love to talk, but there were some friendly potential incoming students (+ one gunner). Lots of food and drink, including a limited selection of alcohol...Bud Light and Newcastle, whiskey, gin, and one other hard alcohol, and a couple wines (BV cab and some others). Looking forward to the real pitch at ASD.boblawlob wrote:Anyone go to SD reception yesterday? How was it?

Re: UC Hastings c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Hey all, I attended the OC reception last night. Asst. Dean Canada was delightful and answered all of my questions. He said something that I was not aware of: Hastings does not give out Merit Aid, only need aid.
That is refreshing in that everyone is equally considered in light of need, as opposed to having those admits with lower LSAT/GPAs pay sticker to finance the school buying up higher LSAT/GPAs, aka the "Reverse Robin Hood Effect". Although, it probably translates to less aid to more highly qualified students.
All in all, I found the alumni in attendance, which included several current and former judges, to be very welcoming and insightful.

Re: UC Hastings c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Real quick, re: scholarships
There ARE ways of getting scholarships outside of straight from the school. Everyone seems to be quite concerned w/ Hastings giving merit aid (rightfully so), but you can google it and apply for tons...especially immigrants/minorities, parents, specified interests, etc...Of course it's another application process, usually with an essay, but it's money!
Just a thought.

Re: UC Hastings c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I have read that a lot of schools say this, but the "need" aid is still based on GPA/LSAT. It was my impression that just because Hastings just waits until the FAFSAs are in, rather than giving money as acceptances go out, they call it "need" aid. But what do I know, I'm just a 0L. Search around the forums for more details.gitguy wrote: He said something that I was not aware of: Hastings does not give out Merit Aid, only need aid.
I can't imagine they'd give more money to a person because they are straight out of UG (no real income) than a person with better stats who may have earned some money in the previous year (especially since they won't be earning that money anymore during school).

Waitlisted, oh well! I'm just glad it's not a flat out rejection like I thought it would be. I'm below both medians...

Unless they changed their process for this year Hastings absolutely, unequivocally, gives out merit scholarships based on LSAT/GPA just like every other non-HYS law school I've ever heard of. They also give aid based on need.

Re: UC Hastings c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I think the purpose of the financial aid supplement was to find out what kind of resources you would have while in school. His reasoning was that by virtue of your acceptance to the school they believe you have merit. Therefore, it's only right to give out need aid. Take that for what it's worth.helterskelter wrote:I have read that a lot of schools say this, but the "need" aid is still based on GPA/LSAT. Regarding the merit-aid debate, there are scholarships; however, scholarships take into account LSAT/GPA and financial need in regard to their distribution
