Re: Georgia State (2012-2013)
I received my welcome email at 4pm central time. Nothing about a scholarship, it just says that the packet is in the mail. I also used my new GSU ID# to log into a student account and access my financial aid, and no award information is available for the Fall 2013 term.
I supposed it is a matter of waiting until that packet arrives!

Hang in there. Calling the GSU office and getting your name in their minds might help.

Did anyone else get the email about the The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund? It appears to be for racial and ethnic minorities (which I am not). Do you think this implies that they won't be offering merit scholarships directly?

I got it too. I think that was just a broad solicitation. Hopefully more scholarship info is to follow.fragrock wrote:Did anyone else get the email about the The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund? Well that's odd. I'm a white middle class male. It was so irrelevant to me that I thought it must've been generic.BlueJeanBaby wrote:I didnt get it. White female.a2blifeUIUC wrote:I got it too. Re: Georgia State (2012-2013)
I got the email as well (white male). With my squeaker gpa/lsat number I was pretty confident whatever inclosed in that email was irrelevant anyway before i opened it.
I spent the last 20 minutes hunting down the mail man, and the admit package hasn't come today. I live in the Atlanta area so if they got it off on tuesday as they say I should have it tomorrow, let y'all know if there's anything interesting in it.

Trying to guess so please help me...did you have a line of seat deposit fees before you were accepted?

Doesn't mean anything.
Eta: good luck with your admissions packet.

2012 grad here.scruffy556 wrote:My biggest questions/concerns are whether the commuter culture is as strong in the law school as it is with the under graduate school, or do you have more connection and interaction with your colleagues?
Law schools in general will feel a little less like commuter schools than a lot of undergrad schools, and GSU is no exception. GSU undergrad is huge - you could have thousands of people in your classes during your years there. GSU's law school class size is only about 200 people, with 600-700 students at the school total. You will bond a lot with your 1L class, so there will be some sense of community at most any law school just because you are put into a stressful situation with a relatively small group of people.
Most people commute to GSU Law; very few people live close by (i.e., walking distance). Many take MARTA, however. The building is pretty busy during business hours (9:00-6:00ish) and there is a lot of just hanging out, but it clears out a lot in the evenings. There are night classes, but not much is going on outside of those classes in the evenings. I found that it was very easy to make friends there. You'll probably find people to be in a study group with and will meet somewhere besides the school, although the school is certainly an option. There are regular social events that are well-attended and pretty enjoyable.
I don't think it would take a lot of work to find a 1BR for $700-800 a month that would be walking distance to a MARTA station and have everything you need. I think with more effort you could beat that price, possibly by a lot. You would do better splitting a 2 bedroom place in most cases. The most difficult part with finding housing in Atlanta is that neighborhoods change from street to street so quickly, so it's helpful to have someone familiar with the area to check locations with. Also how hard is it to find reasonable housing in Atlanta? Reasonable meaning affordable/close to Marta/ safe.

Thanks for the reply and information Howell.
No admin packet today from GSU, I did get one from another school that I was accepted to 2 days after I was at GSU.
No one else has gotten theirs right?

Just checked my status checker today for the first time since the acceptance email and it says my decision letter was finally sent out today. Not sure why they wait so long, but hopefully we'll be receiving the additional info soon!

Re: Georgia State (2012-2013)
Just checked mine to see, and yeah I got the same. I thought they had already done that, but at least now I have the peace of mind it hadn't got lost in the mail or something else. I don't know why I even care so much about getting it, I'm not getting any scholly dollars. Just excited about law school being a reality I guess.fragrock wrote:Just checked my status checker today for the first time since the acceptance email and it says my decision letter was finally sent out today. Received the snail mail acceptance letter this afternoon. No direct scholarship info, just a blurb on the checklist that all admitted students are considered for scholarships.
So far I'm leaning towards GSU. Just waiting on $$$ info from schools I'm accepted to.

Eta: never mind, just got mine.
Etax2: it says I qualify for the als scholarship and to fill out the attached application...and no application was included...
Etaforthelasttime:actually it was, I thought it was a generic financial aid app.

Re: Georgia State (2012-2013)
I got my packet today as well and am a bit confused -- it says I "qualify" for the Atlanta Law School Fellows scholarship (tuition and fees) but asks me to fill out the same application. Does that mean the application is just a formality and I have the scholarship? Or does it mean I'll be considered for the scholarship after filling out the application?scruffy556 wrote:Any bumper sticker or other swag?Marath0n wrote:Received the snail mail acceptance letter this afternoon.
