Everyone make sure that your usernames on here are sufficiently anonymous. I know for a fact that school admin keeps tabs on Pepperdine threads here.gitguy wrote:FYI to those with merit scholarships. I sent an email to negotiate a higher merit award. I was told that adcomm uses a matrix to determine merit awards that is based solely on gpa and lsat, and that they don't consider other subjective factors. They mentioned that they may reconsider some merit awards once the 4/1 app deadline passes and they have a complete picture of the applicant pool.

I never used a commercial outline. I always just kinda figured ... whats the point when I can get a class and professor specific outline locally, for less $$$.Razorbackfan19247 wrote:Thanks for your quick response Gatriel. What are your thoughts on commercial outlines and study groups?
Also, everyone I know who had the best grades didn't do study groups. I'm not going to say they won't work, but it usually just turns into social hour instead. Lets be honest -- what would you rather talk about, the elements of False Imprisionment or the drunking hookup the night before at Bar Review between X and Y where Y flipped off a group of bikers, and they almost killed him, and ended with people running back to their cars getting chased by said bikers with chains and billy clubs. (True story)

To answer a question that Gatriel asked a few weeks ago, I found out that 1L Student Orientation is on 8/14. What exactly do you do at orientation?

I've been in review since 2/1 and am stressing out. Would it be considered a bother if I sent in a LOCI?

What is it they are trying to look out for? Mind if I ask how you know?

Ummmm, honestly, you sit through hours upon hours of informative meetings. While the content might not be that big of deal, and is very common sense and intuitive, I strongly encourage EVERYONE to go and attend the whole time. Why? If for no other reason than to meet your classmates, and take advantage of the free breakfast and lunch every day.Razorbackfan19247 wrote:To answer a question that Gatriel asked a few weeks ago, I found out that 1L Student Orientation is on 8/14. Re: Pepperdine c/o 2016
I send a negotiation e-mail to Pepperdine a few weeks ago with info on higher scholarship offers to other schools (as well as an acceptance with lesser scholarship from Fordham). The response I got was the classic "all scholarship are based on a matrix, we may re-evaluate after April 1." Since I sent the e-mail, I have been given a $7,000 per year scholarship increase from Cardozo...would it be considered nagging to attempt another negotiation e-mail with this new scholly info? Also, I was recently given the "Outstanding Academic Achievement in Speech and Debate" award from my undergrad. Should I notify Pepperdine to add this to my file? Or should I just sit back and relax. Thanks!

There are likely people better qualified to answer this than myself. However, my attitude is that if you have no intention on going at the current offer than it doesn't hurt to push hard for more. Having said that, if you intend on going and are just hoping to score some more $$ then it doesn't hurt to send a polite email addressing the fact that you have already asked for more and that you are submitting this info simply to keep your file as complete and up to date as possible in case they review your info again at a later time.JP16 wrote:I send a negotiation e-mail to Pepperdine a few weeks ago with info on higher scholarship offers to other schools (as well as an acceptance with lesser scholarship from Fordham). Basically, my opinion is that it's not a bad idea to submit the info whether or not you intend to accept the current offer, and that it especially makes sense if you are not willing to accept the current offer. Either way, polite, courteous, respect is the way to go in such undertakings; frankness can still be delivered (in any way you see fit) within these bounds.

Sending them an email updating your file, and politely notify them that you have received very competitive offers from other schools but wish to matriculate to Pepperdine for x, y and z reasons and then notify them of the first seat deposit deadline.CO2016YEAH wrote:There are likely people better qualified to answer this than myself. When that seat deposit comes around you have to ask yourself -- would you be willing to burn the $500 and go to Pepperdine if they increase $$$. If so, then pay the money and hope Pepp gives you more cash. If not, and you'd be willing to go to Fordham or Cardozo then send in your seat deposit and withdraw from Pepperdine. Its always better to keep them informed.

Re: Pepperdine c/o 2016
I heard from a Pepperdine undergrad that the school hands out a bunch of decisions in the fall and then nothing until April. Is that the case? Has anyone who's applied since February 1st heard anything?

I've gotten decent offers from peer schools and a big, hearty, "congratulations" from Pepperdine. I hoped scholly info would follow; I've have lots more "congratulations" from students and faculty, but no scholly. Oh well.Samizdizzle wrote:And I'm in via email. When you get your paper acceptance packet, you should have your letter which will note merit-based financial aid.CO2016YEAH wrote:I've gotten decent offers from peer schools and a big, hearty, "congratulations" from Pepperdine.
