For those who were offered a leadership scholarship, do you know if the April 1st deadline to accept is a hard deadline?

I'm thinking about emailing them to ask for more time, but I also feel bad if I'm witholding the scholarship from someone else... Thoughts?

I received a follow up email after the phone call, this was the final paragraph in the award letter:

"Please contact Katrin Hussmann, Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management, on or before Monday, April 1st, 2013 to accept or decline this scholarship offer. You may call Ms. Hussmann at 410.706.3492 or reach her by email at khussmann@law.umaryland.edu. She is eager to answer any questions you may have about your scholarship as well as our program and services. You should also consult the accompanying FAQ which provides further information. Again, congratulations!"

Can anyone who went to ASW say how it was and relate some of their thoughts?

I received an email about interviewing for scholarships today. How long does it take to receive notification of your award(if any) after the interview?

It took them 3 weeks from the day I interviewed. I have heard up to 6 though.

I think 3 weeks (+/- a few days) is the average.

I thought it was typical school marketing. I liked the professors panel that they had though, and all of them were incredibly genuine. The building was nice, but I wasn't a fan of the area around the school. Unfortunately I was staying in DC so I didnt get much of a chance to explore Baltimore more.

It felt like a hard-sell, and while I really do like and respect the school and faculty, I was hoping for some more candidness about the job market and Maryland's attempt to address the issue. We got a lot of touchy-feely sentiment from the faculty, and I agree that it was genuine and they truly care about their students.

That said, there were some good moments of candidness from the current students and alums. One 2L in the night program went out of his way to let us know that the only way to guarantee a good job is to get out there and do as much as possible to gain valuable experience -- moot court, trial team, journals, clinics (which are mandatory) etc. He also defended the Socratic method, which the professors seemed to be trying to downplay for fear of scaring away prospective students.

One of the alums was also very clear about how difficult it is to be nationally mobile, though he balanced that by saying how great the local job prospects are for Maryland students. The company line on national job mobility otherwise seemed to be "our secret and loyal fraternity of Maryland alums can get you a job where you want one". I'm sure there's some truth to that, but it wasn't exactly a solution to the issue.

I really liked most of the other admitted students I met, though. Seems like a great atmosphere, and the small size of the school is a benefit. The current students and alums seemed like good people too.

Does anyone know what their deposit deadline is? I'm just wondering because I figure they'll hold on to my file until they have a better picture of who is accepting their offer. Thanks!

First one is due on Monday, and I'll probably be submitting it. I kind of get the feeling I got a scholarship interview request this week so they could get my $250 on Monday. They still haven't responded with a time for my phone interview, and I responded three days ago!

Tried negotiating for a scholarship. They gave me one but don't seem to be giving as much as other schools. Have others had the same experience?

I have, I think people were commenting earlier about md having less money to offer, but I'll be sending in my deposit today and trying to negotiate more later. 250 isn't too much in the long run, as annoying as it is

how true do we all think this is?

I'll be putting my deposit down today as well but I am concerned about negotiating.

I freed up 10k/yr yesterday. I read in last years thread they randomly upped a few people's scholarships 10-20k/yr. Doesn't hurt to ask...
