Congrats to the new admits! As far as scholarships go, I'm not really expecting anything until at least the middle of the month, though I've still been checking my email religiously just in case...

Re: University of Georgia c/o 2016 applicants (2012-13 cycle)
I know how you feel. For other ASDs that I have attended, I went a day early to sit in on a class, talk to the 1Ls and mingle. One time I accidentally ended up having lunch with one of the women who worked in admissions because I was eating in the cafeteria area alone and she just took it upon herself to sit with me. Mind you, this was at another southern law school, not UGA. But the experience was very nice.2012Lsatscore wrote:I am. I finally found this on the website BTW:"A formal invitation and RSVP information will be sent to admitted students."LittleBlueBird wrote:I'm planning to attend the open house. Who else is in?
I'm torn, though. I kinda want to get the private appointment too so that I can sit in on a class and see the school without all the hoopla. (But I also want the hoopla too! )

I visited UGA a couple weeks ago - sat in on a class & took a tour and had a very positive experience. Actually, I completely fell in love with UGA after my visit. Everyone I talked to was genuinely super helpful and willing to answer any questions I had... that even extended out to the people I talked to at the rec center and at a 5k I ran in Athens while I was there, so they weren't even trying to sell me on the school.
I will probably be attending the open house as well. Looking forward to the hoopla and meeting other admitted students!

I can't decide if I want to go to the ASD since I am ED and attending anyways, but I've still never even been inside the school! I would like to save the money it would cost me to visit but I'm so curious about the school (and remember from the first time I applied to law schools all the fun stuff you can get at ASDs! )princessofpower wrote:I visited UGA a couple weeks ago - sat in on a class & took a tour and had a very positive experience. Even if you know you're going, I would do ASD simply for the chance to meet your potential fellow students. Some of the people I met at other ASDs made me want to go to those schools just for the camaraderie. It's always good to make friends in situations like this as soon as possible because even though UGA isn't a particularly cut-throat school, everyone is bound it get into competitive law school mode and people will "clique" quickly. I have been warned that law school is "exactly like high school" - which kind of sucks for me because I hated high school so much that I left in my first year (getting my GED, working for three years and eventually going to college). I'm a friendly geek, and I could not handle that crap. At least in law school I'll be around other intelligent people and will be less likely bothered to do other people's homework in exchange for their pseudo-friendship.BlueJeanBaby wrote:I can't decide if I want to go to the ASD since I am ED and attending anyways, but I've still never even been inside the school! I really want to go! I just have to pinch pennies to save as much as possible for August. I definitely do want to meet people, though. I also really want to learn as much as possible about the curriculum, possibly meet professors and staff, etc.. maybe get a sweet water bottle or something.LittleBlueBird wrote:

Just got the invite to the PI weekend. It sounds like a lot of fun and current student are offering housing to make it cheaper! Woop. Anyone else going?

Yeah, I'm going to the PI conference and the Red Clay Conference the day before. I can pass RC off as work, though, which is nice. Anybody know if this EJF auction that Saturday is worth attending?

No word for anyone on scholarships yet? Sounds like they're going to take this "first two weeks of February" thing right to the very end.

I was reading in last year's thread that there are both an Open House and a Admitted Student Day. Can someone confirm the dates for both please?

I went straight to "under review" without any "complete" step. Does this mean anything?

Re: University of Georgia c/o 2016 applicants (2012-13 cycle)
I believe it means your file went complete during a review cycle. I've been told by some schools that while they are constantly looking at applications and they will pass them around so more than one admissions officer will look at you. The periodically they will come together to compare notes and make some group decisions. Possibly when you went complete the "incoming" pile was low. Also, if you have above the median numbers, they will expedite your file ahead of someone with below the median numbers because for those people they have to make more careful considerations.RemyMarathe wrote:I went straight to "under review" without any "complete" step. Yeah. The employees at the campus post office are judging me hardcore as I check the mail 3-4 times a day.patricksouthern wrote:No word for anyone on scholarships yet? Sounds like they're going to take this "first two weeks of February" thing right to the very end.

Well I received scholarship information in the mail today. Though I do live in Athens, so I imagine that's why it got here so soon. It's dated feb 8. Good luck everyone!
