Re: W&L c/o 2016
Going to visit lexington for a few days to get a better idea of "everyday life".
I also want to check out neighborhoods/areas that I could potentially live in.
Any recommendations? Or any recommendations of what neighborhoods to avoid? Ghetto areas?

There's no such thing as a "ghetto area" here. You'll understand once you get here. I'd contact a few realtors in town (they're free... the owner pays them if they rent the place out) and they can show you around. There are a few apartment complexes that a lot of law students live in, such as Pike's Place and General's Retreat. Otherwise, I suggest you stay within a block or two of Main Street. The realtors will be a big help, especially since they know what law students are looking for.L-a-w wrote:Going to visit lexington for a few days to get a better idea of "everyday life".

Just don't live by the dealer's house. There's only like one anyway. And that only because having constant traffic is annoying, not because its dangerous.WLU2015 wrote:There's no such thing as a "ghetto area" here. You'll understand once you get here. Actually, yes, there was a lot of participation. And I know what you mean. I was that kid, too. Seems like there was a lot of my personality type at the ASW (friendly but shy, then very engaged in the classroom). If you go, I'm sure you'll be pleased.JayJones78 wrote:I imagined he will not call on anyone but that also got me thinking if people participated? I always feel like the odd kid out because I love participation. In undergrad I felt these were the easiest credits to getFortunaGubernans wrote:I enjoyed it. I felt that I would like to have the prof for an actual class, so that's good. He didn't cold call, which is probably a relief for some, but I'm actually a huge fan of the Socratic method and would have liked to see it.L-a-w wrote:For those that went to ASW, how was the mock class?

Wo else is ready to pay out $750 by 4/15 to secure a seat? I think that W&L intentionally made the deposit high enough to prevent the huge influx of people that they had last year...

It's the most expensive out of everywhere I've seen. I was pretty displeased that they're requiring Arab oil sheikh money for a deposit when I saw it.JayJones78 wrote:Wo else is ready to pay out $750 by 4/15 to secure a seat? I truly think they intentionally did that to sway away people who are unsure or just looking to use their scholly offers to negotiate with other schools. When I met some current students there they said that they had so many deposits put in after their ranking jump last year that I am just assuming they are using it as a guarding mechanism to avoid another 200 student class.talesofyore wrote:It's the most expensive out of everywhere I've seen. I bet people will beg/borrow/steal to pay the deposit regardless. Well at least W&L will get a nice little windfall out of it, and it couldn't happen to a nicer school.

By the way most of the people I talked to seemed to think the rankings will go up. Really wonder what will happen...

Re: W&L c/o 2016
I love W&L and all but I don't think that's going to happen with the USNWR having the new evaluation system for the PT/FT jobs. W&L has been hit pretty hard being a regional school :/JayJones78 wrote:By the way most of the people I talked to seemed to think the rankings will go up. Really wonder what will happen...
I think it's going to stay the same or maybe UWash drops out of the T25 and W&L maybe gets a small boost since they seem to have horrible job prospects.
Despite what I said, I hope they do go up in rankings and start getting more and more competitive applicants. I think a lot of applicants look at the rankings of schools to decide which school to attend and what not (even though it shouldn't be the biggest factor in choosing a school) and if that's the case maybe W&L, in later years, can get more competitive numbers and go back to the golden ages of being in the top 20.
hope the economy gets better by 2016 ... maybe not pre-recession levels but at least a brighter future :,(

Wait there's 2 $750 deposits? Minnesota has 1 $750 deposit and that's it.
