I know this is late, but I know of very few 2Ls that did not find some sort of job for this summer, be it paid/unpaid/externship etc. I also know that symplicity advertised for paid intern positions through the middle of April, so it is entirely possible that people were getting paid internships through then. I know of a few people that got externships at the end of the Spring semester and Career Services was offering them through the end of the semester as well. I myself have an unpaid volunteer internship, but I am gunning for a different career path than most. I think the only people that didn't have summer positions were the ones that refused to take an unpaid externship or were unable to because they used their extern credits up last summer. That being said, I have no idea how the 3Ls are faring in their job searches for full time employment.

So I've noticed that for a while now tuition at Florida has been increasing:

(In-state)
2009/10 =14,227
2010/11 =16,386.60
2011/12 =18,710
2012/13 =21,421.20.

These increases have been at 15%, the maximum allowed by state law.

I also noticed that the tuition rate for 2013/14 has yet to be released, and "will not be determined until the end of July 2013"

Am I safe in assuming that they will continue implementing these 15% increases each year, and that as such, the tuition for the class of 2016 will be as following:

2013/14 =24634.38
2014/15 =28329.53
2015/16 =32578.96

The claim is often made that these increases will keep occurring until tuition in Florida reaches the national average. I don't see this happening though, and I get the feeling that they are simply going to be increasing tuition by 15% each year until they are no longer allowed to. What do you guys think?

I only ask because, as a 0L, preparing my finances for law school is not easy considering the fact that I don't even know how much tuition I will be paying. Should I just take as much of the federal loan package as I can and just pay back what I don't need? The current cost of attendance offered by Florida only reflects an amount including the old tuition rate, and does not include the predicted rate for 2013/14 if they follow the 15% pattern.

Thanks for any help,

I'm a 0L, so you can take this with a grain of salt, but i was told by a current student that they will not be increasing tuition next year, and possibly for the next year(s). Hopefully a current law student can confirm this.

I've heard a rumor around school that they would keep tuition the same for the next couple of years, but as with everything nothing is official until July. I heard they are a bit concerned that FSU is now approximately 2K cheaper and I believe they (FSU) is staying the same so in order to complete price wise I think administration (UF) was looking to do the same. Take this with a grain of salt, as it was only the heard through the grapevine nothing official but I sure hope it's true!

Florida 2013, make sure not to take out more than you need, no need to accrue interest on what you don't need, but with that said you can make payments within the first 120 days and they will deduct it as if you never borrowed the money and deduct any interest that accrued on that portion. i.e. I borrowed 10K and then paid back a 1K a month later so they deduct that 1K from my principle and any accrued interest on that 1K . Or you can take out a loan in the middle of the semester, if you only borrow 9K but you could have borrowed 10K, you can borrow that other 1K in the middle of the semester. (verify this with financial aid but it is what I was told).

Waitlisters - if you took the June Lsat to up your score and you actually increased your rank/score,
don't be hesitant about emailing Ms. Adorno or Ms. Castro at admissions to update them and request a review of your app. I was accepted at the end of June by doing this - even tho the nice ladies at the admissions desk politely told me several times that such a score would not be considered. Also if you get off the wait list see my post below about housing. The house could be available Aug 1.

Hey TLS crew,
I am a graduating 3L from UF and I have rented the same 3bd/2Ba house all through law school.
It's great for a family, or multiple roomies. My LL would love to get another law school renter so I thought I would post here. If anyone is interested please msg me here or email me at dylanrshea@gmail.com. Also if anyone has any burning questions about UF I'd be happy to chat about it.

Upon further review, unless UF changes its mind before the end of July, it looks they in fact WILL be implementing the 15% tuition increase.

If you have access to ISIS, click on 2013-2014 Financial Aid Awards and Disbursements, and then click on Financial Aid Shopping Sheet, an estimated cost of attendance is given with a projection of In-State Tuition & Fees of: 24,630.

If UF follows through with this and keeps upping by 15% each year it will start becoming a little difficult to justify considering that:

U of Georgia's in-state for 2013/14 is: 18,740
U of Alabama's in-state for 2012/13 was: 19,660
FSU in-state for 2012/13 was: 19,731

That sucks if true. Dean Jerry told me that they weren't going to increase tuition this year and were looking to level it off for the next few years.

They posted the new tuition rates. Tuition did not remain unchanged as was supposedly promised, but it was a small increase. Hopefully they remain at the same rate from here on out like was supposed to happen. Though if the next two increases are of the same increment I don't think it would be a huge deal, but hopefully they don't do that, or UF will lose its in-state appeal to a lot of people in the future.

I might try to schedule some campus tours with admissions staff. Dress well and strive to make a solid impression. In the meantime, prepping for a retake is a good idea.
