No because then you will have people thinking their acceptance number is their assigned seat.shntn wrote:I would have really, really loved this.mastermind10 wrote:benb1215 wrote:Can I have your extra admission please. Has anyone gotten the email for the Accelerated JD and Diverse Student Open House?
I have no idea why I got this seeing as I'm a 3 yr JD and not an URM. Suffice it to say I probably shouldn't show up.

Not to detract from the admissions discussions, but I thought this might interest those of you interested in Chicago BigLaw
I'm basically going through the websites of 60 firms in Chicago (both based in and branch offices) that pay six-figure starting salaries and counting how many post-recession associates* there are in each of them from WUSTL, ND, UIUC, and Northwestern.
I'm at the halfway point right now (31 of 60 counted) and here's a screenshot of my results (originally posted in WUSTL thread)
Hope it helps

*For the purposes of this analysis, any associate that got their J.D. in 2008 or after is considered a "post-Recession associate"

Are you asking about Mayer Brown specifically?? Mayer Brown has 4 Northwestern associates in their Chicago office that graduated in 2008 or later.benb1215 wrote:

I'm going in alphabetical order, so any firm that starts with a letter in the first half of the alphabet is accounted for in the above image.

4 is a pretty scary small number as they have a strong presence in Chicago. Just out of curiosity are you collecting by school or NU vs other? I suppose in the sheer numbers game HLS should have the greatest representation, what would be really interesting is running the school's presence in big law against their typical class size.

I'm just doing NU vs WUSTL vs ND vs UIUC
Just cuz this was originally meant for the WUSTL thread and those schools seemed to be the more popular schools that people were considering in addition to WUSTL.
Just a note about the numbers. This is a headcount of the associates that were hired and are STILL THERE since 2008. I'm sure the absolute number of NU graduates that were hired by Mayer Brown's Chicago office was much higher. Remember I'm not accounting for attrition.
if it makes you feel better, Kirkland & Ellis has 56 post-recession Northwestern associates in their Chicago office alone.

Is MB really a big office compared to KE and Skadden, though? Idk how many associates they have there, but KE should probably have the biggest classes and Skadden has large satellite offices. I wouldn't read in to it too much.benb1215 wrote:Yes. Sorry. That was rather obtuse.cusenation wrote:Are you asking about Mayer Brown specifically?? Very true. It also doesn't account for folks hired in one city and then tranferred internally to a different branch office. It's an interesting exercise none the less.cusenation wrote:benb1215 wrote:Yes. Sorry. That was rather obtuse.cusenation wrote:Are you asking about Mayer Brown specifically?? i'm a little confused about what a "diverse students" open house even is, if its just that all "the students of color" get to have their own special admit weekend i feel like that is super awkward lol

It is that. Or they can go to the regular one (or both, I assume?) Last year they went to a Bulls game, I believe.bobloblawstudent wrote:i'm a little confused about what a "diverse students" open house even is, if its just that all "the students of color" get to have their own special admit weekend i feel like that is super awkward lol
That is literally all I know about it. I could ask on the facebook group and see if I can get info from anyone who went.

hmm i looked at their schedule to get an idea of what to expect during the regular admit weekend and it looks like pretty standard stuff though i'd go if there was a free basketball game included haharinkrat19 wrote:It is that.
