In ..off of the reserve list on 4/18 with date of 4/20 by 4:30 for verbal confirmation then $900 ASAP. YES! I am totally terrified of the debt due to lack of aid available at this late date - can't sleep...still deciding what I should do. Was set to go to B.C. with decent money and a lower COA to begin with, had wrapped my head around those numbers, now the numbers I will be carrying from Cornell are astounding me to say he least. The most respected lawyer I know (and most successful ... Harvard grad, big law) told me it was a no brainer - go to Cornell! Going to look through last years posts and see if any reserve list-ers ended up with any aid. I'd feel better if they would be able to say that I would be considered for aid in yrs. 2 and 3 but it sounds like no aid in yr. 1 is no aid for 3 yrs!

for those still on reserve, admissions office says decisions should be out "hopefully by the end of the month"... so by july you can find out that you have been placed on the wait list.

Did they mention anything regarding whether they expect to have more people admitted from the reserve?

The expiration terrifying e-mail they sent specifically said they want to give our seats to someone else who is deserving, so to me, that implies that yes, they are looking to admit others, assuming that not EVERYONE who already got in is depositing.

the gist of the conversation was: They aren't telling us anything, we don't know anything, hopefully by the end of the month.

That being said, its probably a safe assumption that more people will be admitted from reserve as they are still reviewing reserve applications, rather than sending out welcome to our summer wait list emails.

Thanks for the information and your reasoning (of consolation)! Much appreciated.

Yes, he did graduate before 2009. He is with Skadden in Boston and involved with their hiring on occasion. His experience is that very few B.C. grads will get looks from Skadden and most Cornell grads will get a look.
I know B.C. does well within the Boston area, I didn't know they did better than Cornell (the one in Ithaca!), could be Cornell grads have more options in NY (just because it has more biglaw to begin with) and are pushed in that direction due to the colossal loans they have to pay off. I'm not set on returning to Boston only want options that include the Boston area - I'm getting the feeling that B.C. is more restricted to the Boston area.
Why would they give me aid in years 2 and 3? Because they want me to get a good night's sleep and not have nightmares of myself buried in loan notices that keep falling from the sky. Your reasoning has some merit too.
Going to visit Cornell on Monday...

No, that's wishful thinking. They might offer you a grant if you're in a position to transfer up, but don't count on it.

Cornell does not give additional money to people trying to transfer.

Ouch, that sucks. Chances of getting more aid after 0L are pretty much zero then.

On that note, after a week and a half of waiting I finally heard back about aid after getting in off reserve. Evidently they do still have some small amount of funds to spare since I received 5k/year. Hooray negotiation.

Congrats! I'm still waiting to hear on financial aid - hoping to get 5k/year, too. I'll take anything at this point =)

I'm still on the reserve.. anyone know if I should expect an official decision (admit/reject/waitlist) soon, or could I possibly spend all summer on reserve?

Last year the remaining people on reserve were either rejected or shifted onto the waitlist starting June 21st.

Not to give false hope but I believe the last day for deposit for those taken in off reserve on the 18th has not passed so there may still be seats. Also, apparently schools can see when you double deposit - got a call from B.C. today saying they see I made a deposit elsewhere and wondered what my plans were, I didn't commit either way. They called an hour later and increased my scholarship. Still leaning toward the greater debt incurred with Cornell - like double the debt I would have with B.C. - anybody want to tell me I'm crazy? Maybe I would get responses on the B.C. thread. ha

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
