Interviewed today; went great! I didn't think they would make me more excited about Cornell than I was previously, but they did!

I received 75K. My GPA is above 75% and my LSAT is 168. Also my parents' financial situation isn't likely to entitle me to need based aid.

Alright, so can anybody give me a concrete answer as to what the difference is between "reserved" and "waitlisted"?

I would say you fit into the theory, 168 is right in the range on the high end, family background is financially sound. Cornell would like to have you, so they offered you a good sturdy sum 45K < x < 105K.

Theres a difference between need based aid for individuals (previous posts) and then awards provided for individuals with higher scores. I would venture that with your situation if you applied to some lower ranked schools, you would get even more assistance.

To be honest I would say reserved is more like you're still in the applicant pool and still being considered (reserving judgement) whereas waitlisted means they have taken you out of the applicant pool still being considered at this time and will relook at your application at a later time should they still need additional seats to be filled.

The reserve email indicated we wouldn't hear till well after deposit deadlines though, so I'm treating it as a waitlist. Same difference at this point.

Our several-hundred-person reserve group (of which you are now a part) helps us keep in line with these target levels. Later in the season after we've begun to hear back from people already accepted (usually by mid-to-late May), we decide if further offers are appropriate. If so, we review the files of all reserve applicants and make additional offers. At that point, we also create our official waiting list.

This is from the email, so yes, but it's a big group and you could still be waitlisted. I'm holding out hope, but it's been a long cycle so I don't have the energy to really differentiate at this point.

I mean its just my personal opinion, why else distinguish between the two? Law School Admissions are claimed to be on a rolling basis, so if you applied early I cannot see another logical explanation between the categories.

Not formal at all, very personal. The questions where not quite what I was expecting. After reading the mass interview thread geared to Chicago and Harvard, I was expecting some typical questions from, for example, a job interview. Things like "what has been your greatest accomplishment?" or "tell me about a time where you effectively handled a personal hurdle" or something similar. There was nothing like that. The questions were direct and to the point. The interviewer picked out two questionable things in my applciation she wanted more information on, and we talked about that for a while. (The "iffy app" section of the interview.) We talked for a bit about why Cornell was a good fit for me and I asked some questions about clinics and the OCI process. (The "YP" section of the interview.)

Total interview time was 27 minutes.
