Just for you, I went through last year's thread to check. First of all, I'd like to say: come on, guys--the Michigan thread was at 75 pages by this time last year .

Second, here are some choice quotes from early December one year ago:

Sorry y'all. I didn't mean to confuse anyone. I did not receive an initial merit offer. I just got accepted a week ago so I assumed that they were just taking a reasonable amount of time to assess merit-based money. Then I got the Darrow invite today via email. I was just concerned that if the whole Darrow thing doesn't work out-- which, let's be honest, it probably won't--I might not end up with scholarship money. So I was hoping that someone with experience on this matter might be able to clear that up...

Long-time lurker here, just writing to say I’M IN!!! Found out by checking my email early this morning and seeing a Darrow invite. Was absolutely thrilled but also a little confused! I didn’t receive my admit packet until later today and didn’t realize the ASW could update on weekends.

To those with Darrow invites - does it show up in the Mail area too or did you just get an email? Please tell me that it shows up in the Mail too.

I'm pretty sure it's just an email. I never received anything in the mail, and the communications isn't shown under the "admissions communications" section of Mail and Money.

The deadline in the email said January 3rd, but Dean Z said that applicants could ask for and receive an extension because it's a crazy time of year.

I got the invite about a week after I was admitted via ASW. But I think it was a longer wait for some people who submitted in Sep/early Oct.

So the invitations to apply do start now, even if the final decisions aren't made until later; the invites were made via e-mail last year and did not show up on the ASW; and it was apparently possible to get one along with the acceptance. Unfortunately (for me), I can't find anyone who received an initial award before receiving the Darrow invite (then again, it's a long thread lol).

Also discovered that my page says 2014 because the award always goes by the year it ends in for no apparent reason.

Also offered a Dean's Scholarship (15k per). Cannot even express my excitement about this.

22.5 x 3 = 67.5, which is the highest scholarship Michigan has been giving out (except for half/full scholarships). The lowest scholarship they give out, AFAIK, is 10k per year, which means the lowest one I've seen out of them is a total 30k.

Truth. It probably does make sense for scholarship offers to get bumped up since the applicant pool is becoming more competitive and tuition is still rising.

Does anyone know off hand (before I go check last year's thread) if the scholarship updates went online in batches, or there was one update and that was it? Basically, for those with the "zero rewards found" message still, has the ship sailed?

I'm sure you'd have to get some sort of consolation prize, probably at least 30k/year. It would be ridiculous to have an app so good that it warrants a Darrow invite, yet if you don't get selected you get $0, while people with less impressive apps get all this money.

Thanks, I'm reading through it now and it's looking like there is at least some degree of variety in last year's thread as to whether or not folks received a letter or found out their scholarship online first...and it does seem like some folks found out earlier than others, but it's hard to draw any concrete conclusions because so many found out through the backdoor into the ASW, and therefore it's hard to gauge what if any standard timeline exists for scholarship notification. Guess I'll just have to play this one the old fashioned way and wait.

Congrats! I finally received my viewbook in the mail today (it was forwarded from across the country...they sent it to my parents' house for some reason) and I've been admiring the photos of campus and rereading the lovely letter from Dean Zearfoss. I hope luck is on my side as well.

Means nothing. A lot of people haven't heard back yet.

Acceptance phone call? Is that only for international applicants? I never got a phone call, I just found out through the online status checker. And I only found out so early because I applied through the binding Early Decision - most people haven't heard back. It's still pretty early in the process here.
