Then while we're on the subject, this profile has always been the most worrisome to me: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/wa810smart/jd
On the subject of people with shitty cycles, take a look at these:

http://lawschoolnumbers.com/carterth

I was hoping we get regulus to collect a spreadsheet of some of the worst cycles, just to give some perspective to people who are sure they're having epically bad cycles.
I find it somewhat amusing that the majority of these people with "the worst cycle" at least got into NYU...

It's because NYU accepts based on numbers so long as a 30 second skim of their app doesn't DQ them

Sweet jesus. Carterth's cycle is a travesty. Her LORs must have said, "Do not admit this person to law school."
+1
Like I don't understand. what more could she have done with a 180 LSAT and 3.97 GPA ?

Well he took $50,000 at NYU over a full ride at Michigan so I feel like he might objectively be a weirdo???

Dude, look at the rankings every once in a while. NYU is 6th, while Michigan is clearly a much shittier law school at 7th. The choice is clear.

Edit: That, or adcoms just really despise music majors
I just sit on the ground at home alone rocking back and forth telling myself, "No, your softs are fine, your LORs love you, you're a good person ..."

You got in at Cal under admin review, with their super-holistic review process, so I'm sure your softs are solid. On the other hand, my carpet has been worn thin.

Consider the alternative to holding an NYU acceptance...

Oh I know. I just wanted an excuse to post that.

Besides, we are in the Columbia thread on the eve of NCEs, so I think it works in context.

Does anyone have statistics on what sort of numbers often receive hamiltons/butlers?

ETA: And as of last year, they came with acceptances? I hope that doesn't change!

Maybe this is just me, but I always assume that those with freakishly awful cycles are either convicted felons, lying about their numbers, or wrote a PS denying the Holocaust. Which also makes me wonder if these are the type of people that I'll be going to NYU with next year...

Isn't it possible that some law schools would choose to reject an applicant who had astronomically high numbers but almost no extracurriculars, apparent interests, passions, etc.? Perhaps I'm naive.

I agree...while numbers certainly dominate, there is more to finding someone a job than just his/her numbers. That could be another reason why more schools will likely start interviewing applicants as well

Agreed. I have heard from a couple of different lawyers at top NYC firms that they regularly turn down candidates with Harvard undergrad/HLS/180/perfect GPA, etc. because they are socially inept and would not be an asset to the firm. In these times of scary unemployment statistics and constant criticism of law schools for failing to produce capable lawyers I think schools will be paying more attention to that LOR that hints at an applicant's lack of interpersonal skills, or resume that suggests a dearth of actual interest in the law beyond getting into HLS.
