It is true, some people have "highly idiosyncratic preferences." Our casebooks seem to be full of them.

General point which I think may have been lost in the preceding discussion: Chicago often outbids its peer schools (probably due to the Ruby taking otherwise expensive recruits out of the general fin aid pool). Worth keeping in mind given 1.) scholarship decisions are a little random and 2.) negotiation seems to be a big thing recently.

When I received an invite for an interview, the e-mail specified that they plan on sending out the next batch on March 8th and implied that because of that I should schedule my interview before that time, as well as because March 8th I think happens to be the end of the two week scheduling limit.

Your interview time was from Feb. 25 - Mar. 8? And these are the mid-December completes, correct? Does anyone remember the intervals for the last few rounds of interviews/acceptances?

I believe it was a much longer window. I was complete in November, got the invite email on Jan. 24-25 and interviewed around Feb. 18-19.

Yes to the first question and no to the second two. My app was completed in November.

EDIT: And does EVERYONE get an interview? Is that why people are saying it's taking longer than usual for them to respond? I was excited for a bit thinking the interview invite meant I have a greater chance of admission :/. Guess it's just standard practice.

SECOND EDIT: From the website, "Interviews will be by invitation only. Although our goal is to interview as many potential members of our incoming class as possible, we will unfortunately not be able to offer interviews to all applicants." Now I'm back to excited.

Also complete around that time. I'm really wondering how this slower/interview strategy is going to work out in the end. Waiting this long has only allowed me to visit Ann Arbor, talk to students and generally just get more emotionally wrapped up in Michigan, when at the outset, I was about equally interested in both schools.

That is what I thought, it sounds like the windows are getting smaller which probably means a much better chance the interviews are a good sign. We havent had anyone get into UChi w/o an interview correct?
