I think they're transferrable. People have generally talked about "waves" of Rubies, and since the endowment is expendable, I would think it needs to be used to its full extent.

Cngrats to all the Ruby recipients...now that those offers have been made, do you think the rest of us will start seeing some scholly movement?

ETA: Nevermind. "We will begin to release awards in early March to those students having completed their forms on time."

What's the consensus on wearing a suit vs. simply looking professional for the Skype interview? Wearing a suit seems over dressed considering I'll just be sitting at a desk in my bedroom. Do they make any mention of appropriate dress? Gut instinct is telling me a
collared shirt without a tie is appropriate.

I went collard shirt + tie. I think that no tie could be appropriate, but I wore the tie to play it safe. I agree, suit is too much (although many people wore a suit and had great reasons for doing so)

Mine came a week after going under review, give or take one or two days.

A bunch of us with November submit dates got invites yesterday. I went UR on 1/9. You might be an anomally, or in trouble, or just a totally normal person who just happens to lack a TLS match.

Going back and looking at it, I actually didn't go complete until late November. So maybe I'm just the next wave. Though, I'd be happy as an anomaly... I think.

Congrats to all those who are awarded the ruby!

Thanks Regulus for the scholly info, as someone who probably got in because of the ED boost, I am already very happy with my cycle, and can be a little happier if they offer any $$ at all, and possibly even happier if I don't have to wait all the way till Apr...

I am asking for too much, I will shut up ... :P

paged through and saw somebody who actually went to my tinyass unprestigious ug; knew em in passing but weren't acquaintances or anything. kinda surprising and cool.

guess i can stop worrying about having been admitted on accident now.

Everyone, even those of you who decide on Chicago, are more than welcome to turn down your awards if you want... Actually, you are encouraged to do so. I figure that if the 160 matriculating students with better numbers than myself and the other bottom 20 applicants all refuse the Rubies, then Chicago will have no choice but to give me one.

Also, regarding other financial awards, I talked with Chicago's financial aid office yesterday about my Need Access issues (see previous pages for details about that), and also went ahead and asked them if they knew when the site for admitted students to begin filling out their 2013-2014 cycle financial information would become available. I was told that in addition to the new interview system, Chicago is also implementing some new financial aid system which will delay things from March-ish timing to end-of-April-ish timing. I am not sure if that just means the website will become available then and unnamed merit-based scholarships will be announced sooner, or if both will be delayed, but they apologized for everything and called this a "transitional year in many ways."
End of april for initial scholarship offers? surely that can't be correct

If it is, I'll have long since withdrawn. I'm hoping you're right.

i suspect that's for need-based aid. i can't imagine initial merit scholarships coming that late.

Application Under Review 1/31! First motion in 2.5 months.

I have faith again, Chicago -- that is, until you actually see my GPA and ding me Monday.
