they don't ask that. you're the consumer you can have options open. however, you can't deposit in two places at once.

NYU: "Hi, I'm XYZ from NYU Law School Admissions Office. I was just calling to see what your interest level for NYU is still. Have you, for example, settled on a school or is NYU still in the picture?" (I don't remember the exact phrasing of his whole question but I do remember him saying "settled on a school").
Me: "I have, uh, deposited at the University of Virginia, however I am still interested in NYU. If NYU offered me a spot, I would deposit at NYU"
NYU: "...Oh ok. Thank you."
Me: "Thank you, I really appreciate you taking the time to call me"

Entire conversation was 1 minute and 7 seconds

Obviously I can't deposit in 2 places at once.. I meant that I would eat the UVA deposit/not do the 2nd deposit deadline if NYU offered.

This is not technically true. Some schools allow you to put down multiple deposits.

So I know they are not allowed to offer students admission on the condition that they remove themselves from wait lists, but does anyone know where this rule is actually stipulated?

Thought LSAC was responsible for this, but they claim to have no idea.
