Yup. Well for you it's down to how much $$$ USC/UCLA can toss at you to sway you away from Berkeley

Oh no, I'm still on Committee First Read. I just meant that I could say that in my LOCI if I get WL'd or something.
You must really want California. I'd take Cornell over USC in a heartbeat.
If you want Southern CA why would anyone take Cornell over USC with money? That doesn't make much sense to me. If someone wanted Northern CA or COA was closer then that's a different story.
Eta: also, Ithaca.
goden doesn't have money at USC. Cornell sticker vs USC sticker = eh. But you're right about USC for socal... that's why I said, "You must really want California," because then it makes sense.
Also, Ithaca is awesome.

I'm confident Goden will snag USC at a price lower than Cornell.
Anyway, back to the topic at hand: GIVE ME MY DING!!!

i could be totally wrong, but isn't it realllly hard to get back to SF/SV with cornell unless you are top 10%ish? I feel like NorCal is even more insular than LA.

Top 25% plus ties is what I have seen for Northern CA from the lower t14 (minus Berkeley of course), somewhat easier to get LA. But I am a no nothing 0L so take with the appropriate amount of salt.

Berkeley is my top choice for law school since I want to stay in California. Currently in Faculty Review. Any thoughts about sending a letter of continued intent to further express interest or should I just let it sit?
Any advice appreciated,
I would definitely send it. My only source of info would be that I know a bunch of kids on FR and most of the professors and I can't imagine any of them would be turned off by a LOCI.
ETA: Also, it's sooooo hard to get NorCal BigLaw even from here. I'd say Top 25% and/or luck is what it takes from Berkeley. It probably takes even better grades and ties from somewhere like Cornell. Although (most) law firms in general care less about grades as a strict IN/OUT than I thought they would, tbh.

What about if you've been under regular review since early November? Still recommend sending one?

I don't know. I don't want to be negative and say that it seems like a ding, but I don't really know of people who got in without FR after the first couple waves of people admitted prior to FR. If those exist on LSN and stuff--like, if anyone has ever been admitted without FR at this point in the cycle--I say definitely do it.
Berkeley is one of those schools that I think considers your "fit" at the school a bit more than others. That's why it seems black boxy. I actually don't think it's that much of a black box at all. i think it's pretty obvious to see what Berkeley really likes in its student body once you get here--tons of diversity, perhaps a public interest and social justice slant, etc. I would think that a LOCI talking about how Berkeley is your #1 can only help you with a school like that, as opposed to a school like NYU that is going to admit who they admit purely based on numbers.

Just curious, I'm heavily leaning UVA at the moment but I'd ideally like CA Biglaw when I'm done. Would you guys take UVA with 135k over USC/UCLA with 120k?
I guess I'm going more for ranking than locale, but I'm a CA resident and native Californian so I feel like I have enough ties here to come back.
Also, since this IS the Berk thread, I will give an update: no movement since 11/21

120 at UCLA for is full ride for a resident, no?
Edit: Never mind, just looked it up. Personally if stay in California I would that's where you want to practice. The alumni network will be stronger and you can network with potential employers a lot easier. Going for ranking is bad practice.

I guess I should rephrase: I'd also like to get out of CA for a bit if I can and am not opposed to working anywhere else, any idea how difficult it'd be to do UVA back to San Diego or LA?

I would take UVA in this case, unless for some reason you HAVE to be in California. That's a fucking great deal for a T14 and gives you an extra safety net in case you miss out on CA biglaw.

After reviewing thoroughly your application for admission to UC Berkeley School of Law, the Admissions Committee has decided, with regret, not to offer you a place in the Class of 2016.
