do people send LOCI if they haven't even heard back yet?

I did this last year for a few schools that I didn't write a Why X essay for. It worked out just fine.

I did this for several schools. Got in at 1, waitlisted at 1, and haven't heard back from the other. I really doubt it is going to hurt you at all unless the school expressly says to not send additional unneccesarry materials.

I did this at UVA last year. They responded with a surprisingly personal response. Then I sent them a "Why UVA" which I hadn't originally written. 3 days later, they admitted me.

On the other hand, the other 4 schools that I sent LOCI to waitlisted me without any response.
