Ole Miss c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Is there anyone out there? Decisions are starting to come in, so I thought there might be SOMEONE else admitted or applying.

Got in last week but will most likely end up elsewhere. Nothing against Ole Miss but just won't work in my circumstances.

Glad somebody started an Ole Miss thread! I was admitted a while back but just received my scholarship. It's the tuition equalization scholarship for OOS students. Still unsure whether I'm attending though.

The status check has said "Application received" since January 21st. This is torture lol

Right now I'm deciding between Miami, FSU, and Ole Miss... Ole Miss is obviously the lowest ranked, but it will be my cheapest option by about 8k per year, and there are some definite positives to the school. For those of you who are definitely attending / seriously considering, what are the factors drawing you there?

Re: Ole Miss c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
My status date hasn't changed sine 1/19, but my status changed to "your file is in pre-evaluation" a few weeks ago. Then, about a week ago the top of the status checker page says "your file is under review."
I have no idea how many steps there are, but I wish they'd just let me know! I have heard from everywhere else and I'm itching to make a decision.
There are a few reasons I want to go to Ole Miss. I already live in oxford, so it would be an easy transition for me. I care nothing about big law. I am not going to be taking out student loans, and I don't want to have to, so I like the fact that tuition at Ole Miss won't be a HUGE burden on me for, possibly, the rest of my life. Also, I love Oxford and Mississippi in general. The new building doesn't hurt either.
Does anyone know anything about status checker?

I went into pre-evaluation a few weeks ago and am back to complete. Definitely one of my higher choices right now and am really eager to hear back!
Did most of you find that your status checker changed (like to "decision rendered" or something) before you were notified? It looks like Ole Miss sends their acceptances via snail mail, and I have seen mentions on LSN that some people received their letters with little to no notice that they had had a decision made regarding their application.

Status checker updated late Friday afternoon to decision letter sent. Monday morning the header updated again mentioning seat deposit deadlines and letter was received that afternoon. A welcome package follows a couple days later (wish more schools sent similar type welcome packages like Ole Miss does).JerichoJohnny wrote:I went into pre-evaluation a few weeks ago and am back to complete. Have you heard anything yet? I'm getting anxious since I'm going to be out of town next week - it would be my luck to get the letter the week I'm not around!

Hey everyone, in on Feb 12th. I sent my seat deposit in today! I went to Ole Miss for undergrad and can't wait to begin law school!
Here's a Flickr Gallery I found in case anyone isn't familiar with the law school. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mississipp ... 221238898/

Good luck! Also, they do not accept via status checker so make sure to check your snail mail daily. My acceptance was in a razor thin envelope so do not get discouraged if you see a thin letter in your mailbox!mkates33 wrote:Updated to "Committee Review" on 3/7.sartorialsmitty wrote:My status for Ole Miss updated to "Committee Review" on 2/27. That's good to know. This is one of my top choices and I see "Complete" every day on my status checker but still find myself wondering if a letter is on its way.
Also, thanks for the flickr link. Until I am actually accepted I cannot afford the time off work to travel to Oxford, but it looks as impressive as I've heard!

No problem. I have lived in Oxford since January 2008 so if anyone has any questions I can do my best to answer them.JerichoJohnny wrote:

Decision letter mailed today...
Considering I have offers from higher ranked schools, I am hopeful and look forward to seeing a couple bucks in the offer. I like Mississippi.
EDIT: Sorry, that sort of sounds cocky...not my intent. I'm just hopeful. That RSASL program looks very interesting!

Re: Ole Miss c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Dear Mr. USMCMatt,
I am pleased to inform.....and then there were a whole bunch of other words. I really didn't need to see them 'casue I was happy enough.
Came in such a thin envelope I was thinking it was a no.
I don't know what it is about Ole MIss but I just feel really drawn. I've only ever been to Oxford once and it was a long time ago but I just have this comforting feeling about the place.....
Has anybody else gotten scholly offers? Decent, Fair, Bad, Good, Ugly?

Re: Ole Miss c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Congratulations on your acceptance. I am still waiting on what will, hopefully, be my acceptance. Ole Miss is a top choice, and I know what you mean about the feelings it gives off. Naturally I am choosing a law school based on more important reasons than that, but it's nice to have that in the background. I hope my familial ties to Mississippi help me out!

Both of you, it doesn't matter. I just want to hear from a few people attending as to why they made their choice.

I don't go there but it was a serious consideration for these reasons.Comoncents wrote:Why Ole Miss? What makes this place your choice?
If your desire is to live and work in MS and especially the small markets you really can't beat Ole Miss. If you left the state and attended a T-14 people would wonder why and it might be hard to explain it. If you didn't go to high school in that town you likely wouldn't get hired being a T-14 grad in any of the smaller markets. Alabama or Vandy might be acceptable but probably wouldn't be viewed as well as Ole Miss in more than a few small markets.
I have ties in MS but Ole Miss is not very military friendly with their money and I would not go into debt to go there. That and my NYC wife would leave me if I suggested we move there. But for many small MS markets you really can't beat Ole Miss.
Believe it or not, many people like the thought of practicing law where they grew up even if it doesn't pay 160K.
Plus, you have great SEC football and the Grove. (Not a good reason to go someplace for law but enjoyable none the less.)
