Waitlisted at Chicago (2012)
Hey guys. I'm just making this thread for people waitlisted at UChi to commiserate, post strategies, how interested they still are at this point, etc.
stats - 3.5x/176 (a retake)
I was originally ED.
Still insanely interested and will remain on the waitlist until the first day of classes.
EDIT: lat year's WL thread: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 7&t=144027

Re: Waitlisted at Chicago (2012)
Going through last year's thread was a terrible idea. I'm now cognizant of the fact we aren't going to hear back until May at the earliest and that there is some shred of home of getting off. Ugh.
169/4.0, applied ED, will also be riding it out until classes start. Have already sent in an LOCI (and thank you, Chicago, for starting a clinic that related perfectly to my entire resume this semester) and an updated transcript.

Reporting in here! 3.4/170, also applied ED. I wrote them a LOCI back in early January. I'll probably stay on, but now that I'm into Penn (my other first choice), I might just drop off of it. Philly's warmer anyway

Nice. I was wondering why we didn't have one. Did everyone send in LOCIs already?

Checking in. I'm in at NU, but if it's between NU and Chicago at sticker - I'm pretty certain I'll go with Chicago.

This renewed rigor is what I needed. Going to finish my second LOCI over the weekend.American_in_China wrote:Finished and sent off my second LOCI on Friday. Not gonna stop. One a month. BRING IT ON CHICAGO! YOU'LL BLINK FIRST!
If nothing else, maybe they will reject me sooner?

Re: Waitlisted at Chicago (2012)
Should have applied ED here but the tiny chance at HYS made me greedy. Still haven't been rejected anywhere yet but I am going to write some major LOCIs to Chicago. I was waitlisted during the second big batch so about two weeks ago? Im going to try and finish my LOCI this weekend and send it off. I also have another LOR I will be sending too.

To everyone in here, take comfort in Chicago's 25% yield.

That actually might make some of us feel worse, since Chicago would have to accept that many more applicants to compensate. But you're right.

Re: Waitlisted at Chicago (2012)
Wow, that is a low yield rate. Or is that typical of any school not HYS? Also, does anyone know how big Chicago's waitlist is? If LSN is to be believed, fairly big.

Also, stoppit scarlet. You totally belong in here.franklyscarlet wrote:I... Do not belong here, looking at this company. Not sure why I wasn't dinged But, here I am. Working on a LOCI.

This is probably a dumb question, but I have heard talk of yields and stuff liek that before. What does a 25% yield mean?

Of all the applicants Chicago accepts, 25% take the offer and attend. To put that in perspective, Yale has a yield rate of over 70%.pancakelover wrote:This is probably a dumb question, but I have heard talk of yields and stuff liek that before. What does a 25% yield mean?

Re: Waitlisted at Chicago (2012)
Hm. So, from TLS it looks like Chicago had about 5,000 applications last year. Their acceptance rate is listed as 18%, so they took about 900 people.Doorkeeper wrote:To everyone in here, take comfort in Chicago's 25% yield.
If their yield rate is 25%, that means 225 accepted a spot at UChicago. Isn't UChicago's entering class less than 200 students? Am I doing a calculation wrong here...because they certainly drew from the waitlist last year. Also, this doesn't make me too hopeful...
And thank you Byzantine!

If all that you've stated is true, that would mean their acceptance rate is lower than 18% this year.

Re: Waitlisted at Chicago (2012)
I took the stats from the TLS Chicago page. However, it looks like they are for the class of 2011, so the 2007-2008 app cycle I believe. Still doesn't quite add up to me because that would mean that Chicago overenrolled, unless their yield was even lower than 25% that year.

The 900 figure doesn't include people admitted via waitlist?

Re: Waitlisted at Chicago (2012)
I'm having trouble finding the yield percentage, but the other numbers look good. I think the most important issue is the extent to which Chicago accepts those 800-900 students off the WL. It seems to me that they use the WL pretty extensively, and with application numbers supposedly being really low this year, I think that bodes well for us, since schools are more likely to have a bit of WL movement than in years like 2009.

Re: Waitlisted at Chicago (2012)
I'm virtually positive that the number includes the WL.kindaklueless wrote:The 900 figure doesn't include people admitted via waitlist?
Also, why do so many profiles on LSN, including ones with recent updates and fairly early submit dates, still read "pending?"
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
